April 10, 2010

I don't know if this is the right place to post this, I am new to the board. Few friends told me I need to check this out.

Me and my soon to be wife are getting married April 10, 2010... on the 12th we are fly to Orlando for our honeymoon at Disney World. (we are not staying at a Disney Resort, a friend got us our hotel room and got if off location, not a big deal)

But we are kind of stressing about the crowds on April 12 - 18. I've read it slows down after spring break, and from what I've seen most spring breaks will be over by then.

Does anyone know what the crowds are like in April and after Spring Break?

Thanks.

I know either way we are going to have a great time. My fiancee has gone before, but had a dreaded time because who she was with. She has me all excited like a kid. Last night I couldn't even sleep lol!

Welcome to DIS and congrats on your upcoming wedding.

I think you'll be fine. The further away from Easter, the less crowds there will be. We went two weeks after Easter last year in mid-April and crowds were very manageable. We'll also be there at the same time as you this year!

Welcome and congrats!!! DH and I Disneymooned also. (However, that was 13 years ago!!! My how time flies!) Ya'll should be fine. We usually go at the end of April/beginning of May every year, but last year my brother and his family went pretty much during your timeframe. I'll admit I called them crazy because they planned it only 2 months out. But despite that, they got several dining ressies including CRT. According to them, the crowds weren't that bad. Looking at their trip pics, they were right! just relax and have a great time!!!!

I would definitely recommend you making a few ADRs for your honeymoon! Also maybe the horse and carriage ride at Saratoga Springs.

Have a magical honeymoon!

We have a light budget, being young and me working an entry level position at a news station, but we made an ADR at California Grill.

I get giddy thinking about everything. I've never been this is just going to be amazing.

Since it's your first visit, I would recommend a good guide book. I buy a new Unofficial Guide before every trip. A small amount of planning can really help you get a lot more out of your day. Familiarize yourself with the week's schedule and choose your park days wisely (many recommend visiting the park that had evening EMH the night before.) Know how to use Fast Passes. If you do get the guide book, select a few "must see" attractions for every park, a few "would like to see" and mark off any that don't appeal to you at all. Don't try to see it all! It can't be done.

On another note, there are two types of people in the world. Those who honeymoon at Disney, and those who don't know what they are missing.... (of course we honeymooned there in 1984... and went back for our 25th anniversary!)

Have a wonderful trip, and a wonderful life together!

Thank you everyone. We are both kids at heart, so I know this will be one of many many many trips we take. Hopefully one day I'll be able to help people out like you guys have.

Let me ask a question, we plan on going to barnes and noble and getting a guide or two, but I've heard a lot of great things about Tour Guide Mike. Is it good? Is it worth the price? Are there other pages out there that give you crowd numbers or stuff like that? I hate to ask so many questions, but I'm so excited.

We went last year at the week after you are going but technically the same week because its the full week after Easter. It was crowded but doable if you get to the parks early, have ADRs for restaurants you want, try getting fastpasses. It is still spring break though. We actually came in that Friday after Easter and it was PACKED, wall to wall people but the crowds did get less starting that weekend (the one after Easter). We are going the week after you are this year (which is still the same week we did last year but 2 full weeks after Easter) and I know New England schools have off that week so I'm sure schools have off the week you are going.

We went up for a weekend once during the New England school break by accident, we would have normally avoided that week for crowds. However, the crowds weren't bad, it was when we started wondering if we were the only people not wearing Red Sox/Patriot gear that we remembered that it was school vacation week.

Of course, "crowded" is a subjective term. If someone had only ever been in the summer the parks would feel empty, if they were used to going in January the parks would feel crowded.

Have fun, try the Dole Whip.
