After reading some of these names I guess my niece "Jurzie" is not so bad after all.

My friend is named Summer, her daughter is September. Not sure of the reasoning behind that.
People in our school have 2boys, Dakota and Montana, and 2 girls, Savannah and Michaela (not sure how Michaela ended up with a non-geographic name!).

The strange thing that I've seen happen is, people want to name their kids the "name of the year" - Aiden, Ava... but try to be unique in the spelling - wake up, people, there will still be 14 Aidens in the kid's kindergarten class!

Aayden, Aden, Ayden, Ava, Ayvah, Brittany, Britney, Britany, etc...
Exactly which is why I named my kids Heather and James and spelled them correctly!

Aidan and Ava happen to be my favorite names. But I liked them before they were popular.

I think I have a fairly normal name. Jade.

It's been mispronounced as Juh-Dee before. That bugged me.

There was article on a website for a magazine, I forget which, that had weird names. The most memorable one for me was "ISaidRiannah"

Poor kid.

Worst name I have ever heard - the child of a neighbor of my aunt:

Philomina Mudhole..

But come to think of it, what WOULD go well with the last name "Mudhole"??

Come on, D'Brickashaw Ferguson is the coolest name ever. I want to know how did his mom know he was going to grow up to be an NFL player? That name was made for a football player. It even sounds tough. I say that is one man where his name fits his occupation. LOL

I actually don't think that's such a bad name. I wouldn't name a child that, but it's not much different than naming a child Hope, Faith, Prudence, Grace, Charity, Joy, etc.

"Confidence" is not particularly an old-fashioned name, but naming children (especially girls) with trait names is kind of an old-fashioned thing to do. Maybe it is making a comeback. "Justice" might be another such new version of the trait name. I actually like the idea of character trait names, come to think of it, assuming the parent tries to instill that trait in their child.

When I worked in peds, I worked on a chart for a child named God. I thought I was going to be struck by lightning every time I spoke that name..."God's took four ounces of formula this morning"..."God's given us a 'special gift' today"...

My sisters name is Tena, my mom couldn't read my grandmas writing. But one of her teachers told that it is spelled right acording to phonics.

When I was growing up the only Kathies(or Kathys/Kathi's) I knew were spelled with a K I moved in High School & all the Cathys were spelled with Cs, so that could be a regional thing

Kae(or Kathie)

And on the subject of trait names, my grandfather was big into geneology back in the 80's and discovered his great grandmothers name was Experience.

There is a Mister in my daughter's class....he is a fabulous football player so more than likely you all will hear about him in about 4/5 years (sooner if you are in TX)....Mister Jones....grandma named him.

I babysat sisters: Wednesday and Teal and my oldest is Cassidy....we've only known one in her age group....a young man born on the same day in the same hospital. All the rest are little ones....there are more of her middle name (Cheyenne) running around. My youngest is Abigail with a nickname of Abi. We lived next door to a family that spelled all of their little girls names strangely....AbbyGayle is the only one I can remember distinctly.

My son is 29 and has an unusual name with unusual spelling. He likes his name, doesn't mind spelling it for people, certainly doesn't feel saddled. I also continue to love the name, even all of these years later.

I'm not an uneducated person, was not trying to spell anything phonetically and I wasn't trying to be unique.

If you are laughing at me behind me back, I won't be too worried about it.

I have a Storm in my room; his sister is Skye. The rest of my kids have pretty normal names.

I went to school with a boy name Charles Fountain Leake and he was a fourth! I don't know why they would pass that one on.

DS has an unusual name, Torin, but it's easy to spell and everyone(including him) seems to like it. Hope they aren't laughing behind my back.

Perhaps one of the parents is a weather person? One of our local news weather man is named Storm Fields. His father is also a weather man for a different channel. So, at least his name & profession make sense.
