Free Dining in August 2010?

I'm sure someone's probably posted this already, but is there free dining in August this year? Hoping to go in mid-August or late August. TIA

Only if you were able to book the bounceback offer at WDW before October 24, or you are a resident of Great Britain. If not, you will need to wait for the offer to be announced, which, if it happens, will probably be in March.

This is a total guess, but I anticipate personally that it will start no earlier than August 15. The basic dining plan is at peak pricing for package reservations until August 14 and I can't see them offering free dining at the same time.

Yep... last year it was announced for the general public at the end of March. In previous years it was announced in April. If you are a Disney Visa holder they get first chance at it about 2 weeks before everyone else.

Last year Disney Visa cardholders got a two to three day head start on booking, not two weeks.

We booked the BB for 2010. The earliest date allowed was 8/15/10. Makes sense since that's when the pricing changes to value season, but there is never any guarantee as to what Disney will do.

tinka-belle, may I ask what BB is?

BB = bounceback offer. This is a limited booking offer that was available only to those who rebooked while they were still staying at a Disney resort between August and October 2009.

Slightly OT, but I think Free Dining in 09 drifted tinto the F&W festival, and not by booking day one the day before. Am I correct? I have DH convinced to go during F&W, he hasn't been in 5 years. If I can get free dining, I can convince him to also stay on site at a WDW property instead of the coroorate Dolphin. I will have to wait for the Disney Vias offer to come out and Ihope Ican time it right.

TIA>

We were really, really , really luckey last year and got the pin code which gave us the free regular DDP Oct thru Dec. We went the last week in October and the F & W Fest was great at this time of year, was already underway unlike the last week in Sept. so less crowded, and the temp was only 90-05 but a bit less humid. I think we will hold out for te pin code again this year but I don't know what our chance will be to get it again, If you get it once do you keep getting the code I don't know.
Everybody cross their fingers for free dining is is addictive and the only cure is to keep going.

The 2010 festival starts October 1. The bounceback free dining offer ends September 30. If there is a general public offer for August/September and it has the same dates as the bounceback, if you check in September 30 or before you can have free dining for your full trip, up to 14 nights, so if it works the same way as before you could definitely have free dining during the festival - assuming there's an offer for 2010.

There was a second free dining offer in 2009 that encompassed the entire Food & Wine festival. However, 2009 was the only year that was offered, and it may or may not be offered again for 2010. So if your plan is to check in after September, you will need to wait and see whether or not there's a second offer like there was last year. Last year's fall/winter offer was not unveiled until July 2009. It sounds as if you are attending a convention or corporate meeting, so your dates may be unchangeable.

Thanks. Rather than take a chance, I think I will book it for the last day to carry over into F&W. The where to stay is the issue, free dining trumps the Dolphin to me, but DH is a Disney disliker. We did 3 nights at the AKL, he didn't like it. The other few times he has been to WDW we have stayed offsite or it has just been a one day after a cruise (which he also dislikes). Maybe I can rent points a Saratoga Springs, I think he would like that. There is no way I could do BCV unless it was 6 buck a point, and I don't see that happening!

In 96, 96 and 98 we booked the last week in Sept. which ran into Oct. so we were there for the start of the F & W Fest., 99 we got a pin for the regular DDP and went the last week in OCT. so the fest was going on our whole trip. I think the plan NALA mentions is the free Counter service only plan that was offered Oct. thru Dec. ending sometime before Christmas, we got a pin so we got the 1TS, !CS and 1SC. But never know when you will get that pin.
As for where to stay, we stay at POP 50's area and don't mind it at all since we spent most time in Parks Eating and only back at the resort to sleep.

If I book SSR, I will get the old standard plan. The last pin I got was in 2000 maybe? I have stayed at Pop 3 times, 2 times for free dining and for me solo or with a friend or my sister, it's fin. For DH, he would not like it. He travels, often twice weekly and stays in Courtyards or Hilton Garden Inns, that's as "motel" as he likes. But I have a little time to think about it. I have a lot of things already on the calendar, so this one is off the books till the Disney Visa offer comes out.

I appreciate all the information!

renting points will make you ineligible for free dining... free dining historically has only been as part of a package [resort, park tickets, dining]
