Can you use coupon on a "FREE" item?

Planning our grocery purchases. I have a couple of $2.00 off any Hatfield product coupons. At Weis markets this week the ham steaks are buy one get one free. So, can I use two of the $2.00 off even though the 2nd ham is technically free???

It depends on the store policy. At cvs and publix I have never had a problem. At kroger bogo actually rings up 1 at half price so you can use a coupon on both there also.

I don't know the Weis market policy but you can always try!

There's no quick and easy answer. At the store I shop at most, you can b/c BOGO's scan at half price. There's another store I shop at some that will only take one.

use em!

use em! You may get some overage that would apply to other things you are buying. For instance- I had yougurt which was $1.00 per 6 pack. They were buy 1 get one free. So in total that is $1.00 out of my pocket. I had two $1.35 off coupons so I actually got the balance- $1.70 off my milk which was $1.99. So I got my milk for $.29 and two yogurts for $1.00. Totak out of my pocket before tax- $1.29.

Yes, it's a couponing strategy since you are buying two items that you can use two coupons.

I have never had a supermarket reject the freebie's coupon.

You could pick up the items, take them to the customer service desk and ask if it's okay if you're really nervous. The worst they can do is say no, but I don't think that will happen.

At my grocery store, they would refuse it. To them it is free and can not be a couponed item.
I would ask or try ...

At my store you can't either. You could use one on the item you purchase, but not another on the freebie. They don't let you get an item for more than free.

Additionally, if you have a coupon for $1, and the item is on sale for 75 cents, the coupon only has a value of 75 cents (not doubled either); again, they don't let you get more than free. Wish I shopped at kittychatalot's store - would make coupons worth it to me!

Yes you can because you are buying two items. It is a great couponing tip most don't know about.

Even better is when a store has a BOGO sale and you have a BOGO coupon. Then both items are free! Stayfree at Rite Aid this week is an example!

Sometimes you get overage on coupons, and sometimes not. It just depends on how it is coded in the system. But I have never had a store not let me use two coupons on a BOGO. The store is actually making money if you redem the second coupon because they get back face value plus .08 cents usually.

THAT'S illegal (or should be)!!! When a store accepts a coupon and submits it to the processing company for reimbursement, they get back the value of the coupon - not the amount for which they allowed it to be redeemed. Plus eight cents per coupon for handling.

The other thing is iffy - in the case of an audit, they would be able to prove that they transacted (not necessarily for cash) the required merchandise. I know Walmart is really tough on coupons, so I'd expect the answer to be "no" there every time. But, reasonably, as long as stores aren't profiting off the coupon (those hams cost them money, and they're not asking to be reimbursed more than they credited the customer) it's reasonable to expect they'd take coupons even for free stuff. On the other hand, if the store chooses not to, I wouldn't push it.

At the store I shop at, you can use both coupons.

I had a weird coupon experience this week, I had a Snuggle coupon for $2.00 off and I found a bottle of doscontinued Snuggle scent for $1.74, so I though that I would only get $1.74 off, nope I got the whole $2.00 off.

Our local Weis you can use both. Each item rings up at a separate price then the one item comes off a special sale at the end of the transaction. But the coupon scanner recognizes the prices of the two items that originally rang up so you are good to go!
