I want so badly to do this race, it is killing me! But, I don't think it's in the cards, first off, I don't know that I would be ready for anything but a 5K and secondly, we are leaving on Saturday the 2nd. I can't imagine touring all week and THEN doing a race!
The next day I was planning on going to a park for the morning, having lunch and then heading back to the resort for a nap and some rest.

It's going to be a stretch for me to be ready for this too. I'm going to have to really kick my workout in gear before then. I would never be able to do it after a week of touring the parks!

Thanks! It seems like they are down at the moment, I'll check it out later.

Itinerary Version 1.0

Disney finally released the hours for October, and they haven't really helped me at all. Two things are playing havoc with my plans. The new thorn in my side - the race, and the good old stand by thorn - Fantasmic.

Fantasmic is only showing once during the 6 nights we'll be staying at Disney, Sunday the 3rd, which is the only day that it looks like we'd be able to attend MNSSHP. I had been hoping that there would be a MNSSHP on Tuesday night, but the schedule shows MK closing at 8pm that night not at 7pm so it's not likely. So my planning comes down to what is more important, Fantasmic, or MNSSHP. As much as I hate missing Fantasmic, it's my favorite night time event, MNSSHP is a clear winner for me. I can't imagine missing it while I’m down there.

The bigger thorn is the race, and more specifically planning for what to do on race day as well as the day before and after it. Having never run a major race like this, I'm feeling very clueless about when to plan my meals for both race day and the day before. From what I've researched, it's usually recommended that you have a carb meal the night before the race, and then something like a banana or bagel with peanut butter a couple of hours before the race. The problem with those recommendations is that they are for a race that's in the morning, not at 10pm. I called my brother yesterday to get his thoughts, as he's run several full and 1/2 marathons. He's thinking I should have a decent meal the night before, and then race day start the day with a good breakfast, and then plan to have lunch around 2pm or so. No major meals after this. A few hours before the race have something small - the banana, energy bar something along those lines. Nothing that is going to be really sitting in your stomach at race time. I feel better about having a plan for times, now I just need to start on the where.

So I played around and came up with itinerary version 1.0. I'm not thrilled with it, so expect a few more versions.

10/1/10 - Arrival Day
This is still my most up in the air day. I arrive around 9am, no idea yet on my friend. We need to get through ME express, check in and then over to the race expo at WWOS. The expo runs from noon-8. I need to do some research about how much time I should allow there. We have to pick up our race packets and I want to be sure I have enough time to wander around checking things out. I'm torn on whether or not to head to a park once we are done.

Option #1 - Since it should be a MNSSHP night at the MK I want to avoid that park. DHS would be my next choice and it closes at 7pm. I'm thinking if we could be done with the expo by 2pm or so it would be a viable option. Then we could head over there, ride a few rides and have a nice leisurely dinner at the Brown Derby.

Option #2 - Avoid the parks altogether. Finish up at the expo and then spend the afternoon at DTD, and then have a nice leisurely dinner at one of the resort signature restaurants. I'm thinking California Grill or Yachtsman Steakhouse, and watch the Epcot fireworks from the beach. Make it an early night.

Part of me really wants to go to a park right away, but on the other hand we should probably rest up the day before the race. If we did option #2, my friend wouldn't have to purchase any more park tickets and it would save her some money.

10/02/10 - Race Day
MK for the morning, have lunch at about 2pm, and then head back to the resort for a nap and some relaxation before the race. I'm thinking that Tony's for a pasta type lunch. Later we can pick up some fruit from the marketplace to munch on before the race. I'm thinking of making a breakfast ADR as well this day at the Captains Grill. Since there is no food court at the resort, a sit down is really our only place for a real meal. We'll probably want that before the race.

10/03/10 - Race Recovery Day
No plans for the morning. I was toying with the idea of a late Cape May breakfast ADR. Planning on spending the day by Stormalong Bay, maybe a spa treatment at Mandara or the GF for me. I'd like to eat at Beaches and Cream, but am thinking of making a 4:30 pm ADR somewhere in the MK. We'll be attending MNSSHP at night and I don't want a repeat of our Christmas party disaster. I want to be there right at 4pm when the gates open for party goers. If we eat in the park I’m thinking Liberty Tree Tavern.

10/04/10 - 1st Full Park Day
My plan right now is to start the day off at DHS then head to Epcot for a late lunch at Le Cellier and then for dinner wander around enjoying the food and wine festival. I would like to possibly go to Jellyrolls in the evening. We both enjoyed our visit there in December, and would like to fit in another visit.

10/05/10 - 2nd Full Park Day
I'm a bit torn about this day too. Two options here as well.

Option #1 - Animal Kingdom during the day, dinner at Boma.

Option #2 - This is a tough call, but skip Animal Kingdom this trip. I hate skipping a park, but with only three whole park days this trip is feeling awfully squished already. AK would be the one to go. Go to Epcot in the morning, DHS in the evening. Dinner at Brown Derby.

10/06/10 - Last Disney Day
I typically like to make my final Disney day a "floating" day. If we've followed option #2 the day before than my plan would be to sleep in this day a little bit, and have breakfast at Cape May if we haven't done it already. Then we can go back and hit any rides/attractions we like ending up at the MK for Spectromagic and wishes.

If we've done AK the day before I'd like to start at Epcot in the morning (maybe with a princess breakfast) and then float around before ending the day at the MK.

Dinner somewhere - no idea where yet.

10/07/10
We'll be checking out of the Beach Club early and heading over to our hotel at Universal Studios. (Still have to book that hotel room). I'm thinking of an early breakfast at Captains Grill before heading out. I'd prefer to book Mears because it's cheaper, but am thinking a cab would be easier. We wouldn't have to schedule a time that way.

Dinner somewhere at Citywalk.

10/08/10
Islands of Adventure! Harry Potterland! I'm terribly excited about this. I'm embarrassed to say I may have a teeny tiny little crush on Harry Potter.

Dinner somewhere at Citywalk.

10/09/10 - Home!
My flight out is at noon so it will be an early day back to the airport.

Looking over this now, my plans still seem like they are all over the place. With free dining potentially being announced soon, I need to come up with some kind of a plan before my ADR day Sunday.

Things I'd like to do but haven't fit into the schedule:

Tea at the Grand Floridian
Breakfast at Kona (Emmmm Tonga Toast!)
Lunch of Dinner at Sci Fi

I don't think any of these are going to make it into the plan, but who knows maybe they'll make the next version.

I'm a bit confuzzled...is you BBF running the race as well?

Remember you can get Tonga Toast at Capt. Cook's at the Poly....

My BFF is running the race as well. I asked for her input, and she left it all up to me. I wasn't really surprised.

I completely forgot about Capt. Cook's. That may be a good breakfast option before an MK morning. It would be much faster than Kona. I do wish the Beach Club/Boardwalk resorts had some kind of a food court area. I don't mind a sit down breakfast, but I'd like a place I didn't have to make an ADR to get into for a hot meal.

Day 1 options both sound great! I'd get along with either of them, but may lean towards skipping the parks.
WWOS may take longer than you think too.

Why is it that F! is always the things that becomes a thorn in the side? MNSSHP would definitely be a hands-down winner of the 2, though, for sure!

Yes!! Get to MK early on your party day! None of what happened last time needs to happen again!

I'm a wee bit jealous you get to do F&W!! You're going to have a wonderful time sampling! Mmmm!!

Personally, I'd REALLY NOT want to skip AK. But with all trips you can fit EVERYTHING in.

I like your plans! What about tea before you hop over to the MK for the party? Also, with race recovery day, I heard them talking on the WDWToday podcast recently that it is actually recommended to do some light walking after the race. So perhaps some strolling around the Poly and the GF would fit in quite well?

Your plans sound great! We will have to figure a way to cross paths somehow. When can you begin to book dining? I think I can start Tuesday.

Right now I'm leaning towards no park and eating at the Cali Grill. Normally I keep my signature meal to the last night, but the only time we an catch regular wishes and Spectro is our last night. I think this will make more of a relaxing first day. I can go anywhere since I have the AP, but I have to think about my friend. I may just make the Cali Grill ADR late enough that if we want to go to a park first we can, and still make our reservation.

I love halloween and getting to play dressup so for me it was an easy choice. I am not missing any of the party this time!

I can't wait to try F&W! Last time I was there during F&W we were on the dining plan, and that's when dinner included both an appetizer and dessert. We were too stuffed to really eat anything.

Since I've been so often lately, I'm not as upset as I thought I'd be over the idea of missing a park. I have to see how my friend feels. I know she loves Everest, but we can always go there the last day and just see the few things we want to see.

That may be a good idea. Skip a sit down dinner in the park and have a bigger tea at the GF. I have to see if my friend is game for that.

We will be doing a little bit of walking around the day after, just later when we go to MNSSHP. I just have to remember wherever I go later, I'll be in costume.

Thanks. I'm thinking I'm just going to keep it on Sunday anyways, even if they add a day. Not having to use a park ticket on Sunday works well for us. I really want to be sure I get the chance to enjoy a few hours at Stormalong Bay.

Definitely! My window opens up on Sunday. I'm so thankful that it's a day when I'm home, so I don't have to either call in late to work, or show up incredibly early.

Thanks! I had a wonderful Easter. I love getting to spend time with my 2 nieces. The weather actually felt spring like this year it was wonderful! I've been a bit stressed lately, so it was wonderful to decompress for a bit. I completely forgot to make my ADRs on Sunday. (Of course today I'm right back to being nuts again. )

Life has had me a bit stressed out lately. I can't make up my mind about a schedule and ADRS. I've somehow managed to lose the W-2 from my part time job just days before I need to file my taxes. I forgot to log an entry into my checkbook and am now have a $6 balance in my checking account until the 15th, and have gained enough weight lately that all my pants are horribly uncomfortable. (I deal with stress by eating). I've turned my focus on to something infintely more important and fun. Hopefully everything else will work itself out soon.

Halloween costumes for MNSSHP!

I love MNSSHP, and I adore having the chance to get dressed up in a costume for a few hours. Halloween has always been one of my favorite oppourtunities and I plan on taking full advantage of the chance to dress up. Back in 2007 when I went with my BFF I went as Belle in her blue dress. My BFF didn't dress up that year.

I had so much fun. The interaction with the cm's was wonderful and getting dressed up just added to the whole experience. I could wear it again, but I'm a bit like the spoiled girl who doesn't want to wear the same prom dress twice. I want something new. I have a great Esmeralda costume which I could wear, but I've lost quite a bit of weight since I originally wore it. It would probably be okay still, but I'm just not feeling like wearing it. Same with the cute Raggedy Ann costume I just had to make a few years back. I'll try to post pictures of those up if I can find them.

I've been toying around with a few ideas. First I was thinking of dressing up as Candace from Phineas and Ferb. White skorts, red sleeveless top, white keds with red socks and I'd be set to go, with the bonus of being really cool and comfortable. I'd just be afraid that it wouldn't really be clear who I was supposed to be. I was also thinking of dressing as Kim Possible - olive green cargo pants and a black cropped shirt. That would only work though if I lost a bunch of weight before Oct. because my stomach is soooo not in cropped shirt shape.

I went poking around on Ebay and found a woman who makes all kinds of Disney costumes for both kids and adults. I especially loved that she had a Cinderella rags dress, and Ariel's blue "legs" dress. I haven't ruled either of those out yet. What I really loved that she had was a Veruca Salt dress from the original Willy Wonka and the Chocolate factory. It is tempting me! I could easily get my hair to look like Veruca's and go around saying "Whoever heard of a snozeberry?" real snotty all night. Again, like the Candace costume I'd be afraid the point would be missed. It would be great with a group though. Everyone go as one of the kids who won a golden ticket.

Still looking for ideas I was poking around with google and saw a group that had gone to MNSSHP a few years back as characters from the HM. They were great. I love the idea of dressing as a character from Disney attraction. It's still Disney, but a bit more unique. I found another picture of a woman who dressed up as the woman on the tightrope in the stretching room. So clever!

Now as much as I love HM, POTC is my favorite. It's not a particulary girl heavy ride though, then an idea hit me, and for the life of me I can't get the costume idea out of my head. The redhead from the auction scene! As in the "We Wants the Redhead". Here's a pic of the Disneyland redhead. The Disney World redhead is nearly identical. She just doesn't wear a cameo, and her dress has much, much more lace underneath.

I love the idea. Disney, but a bit different. I went to my local Joann's yesterday to look around at patterns that might work. I found one that seems like it might be okay. The sleeves are different, and it wasn't lined, but the rest of the dress was similar. I would need to line it with something though so I could add those ruffles underneath. Of course since it's a costume, I could always just go the easy way and just use a fabric glue.

Now I just need to break it to my mother that I'm going to need her help making a costume. At least she'll be happy I'm planning far enough in advance this time. Usually it's about a week and a half until Halloween and wanting her help.
