T & T's 2nd Thanksgiving Trip - Day 11

Tuesday 1st December
We were heading for Mouse Memories ( a scrapbooking store on the 192) today but stopped off on the way at The Cracker Barrel to get some of our favourite Orange blossom air fresheners. We also picked up a country CD and a salt and pepper set in the shape of cowboy boots and hat as a Christmas present for by mum which they wrapped for us. They took ages but did make a really nice job of it.
We picked up a few scrapbooking bits and bobs from Mouse Memories but they were low on stock. They told us they had a delivery due in; the lady in the store said she would pick the items we were looking for so they would be ready for us next time.

We called in at Dunkin’ Donuts for brekkie and had a couple of donuts each with a lovely coffee to wash them down. While we were sat there a guy pulled up next to us and we both did a second take.... It was Father Christmas. He had long white hair and he was wearing the red hat. When he got out of the car he took his hat off to go into the shop. He was dressed in just a T shirt and jeans and now looked more like a member of ZZ Top. The effect had been really good when he was sat in the car though.

We were now off to Scrappy Boutique as they had given Theresa a $5 voucher when we were there on Black Friday. Callum had asked us to get him a particular pedal which hadn’t been in stock at Georges so we decided to try The Guitar Centre on the way. Now I thought it was on The John Young Parkway and Theresa said it was on The Orange blossom Trail. It turned out she was right and I was wrong, not a big thing you may say but in our house I think I’m never wrong, not that I admit to anyway, so I apologised for being wrong and that is something else I don’t do. Theresa was totally shocked and gleeful and wrote several paragraphs in the happy book (our journal) about it so I feel I must include it here. If I don’t, I know she will only add a comment so I guess I’d just as well get it done.
Anyway they had a sale on in The Guitar Centre so I got Callum a couple of really cheap pedals and a slide to go in his Christmas stocking.

We just had time for Theresa to wiz around Scrappy Boutique to spend her voucher before we had to shoot off for our ADR at the Kona Cafe. At the parking tolls we pulled over to the right-hand side one and explained we had a dining reservation for the Kona and we didn’t have to pay to park.

When we arrived at the Poly we weren’t restricted to a three hour parking limit so we decided we’d leave the car there when we went to MVMCP later.

We’d not had very good meals at Disney so far this holiday and I pleased to say they redeemed themselves today. The food at The Kona Cafe was excellent, one of the best meals of the holiday.

We shared the Pot Stickers for starters while I had Asian noodles with chicken & shrimp for my main and Theresa opted for the Chicken in mango sauce with macaroni salad.

We couldn’t resist the desserts today. I had the Chocolate torte and Theresa had the Banana and chocolate crème brulee. Mine was so rich I couldn’t finish it so Theresa did for me.

After lunch we had enough time to go round the loop and stop off at the Contemporary

before going to the Magic Kingdom for Mickey’s Very Merry Christmas Party.

It was very busy when we arrived Just after 4.00pm. It seems a lot more people are aware that they will let you in for the party at 4.00 even though it doesn’t officially start until 7.00.

Although it was busy, most of the rides only had wait times of 5 to 10 minutes and some were walk-ons. Disney did have things well organised.

We did all of our favourite rides and got hot chocolate and cookies a couple of times.

We also did the Hall of Presidents which we haven’t done since our very first trip twelve years ago.

We watched the fireworks from the middle of Main Street. This was a mistake as the decorations over the street spoilt the photographs.

We moved to the Station end of Main Street for the parade and I set up the tripod with an hour’s wait. Theresa had a long, but as she informed me, enjoyable conversation with a gentleman that was there with his grandchildren. He was originally from Germany but emmigrated to the states many years ago.

I think it was worth the wait as it was a great place to watch the parade from and I got some nice shots.

We’d been lucky today as the weather had been warm and sunny all day and it was still T shirt weather right through the evening.

Great night time photos - thinking of doing MVMCP when we go at Christmas - it's been a long time since we last went - do you think it was worth the extra $?

We've been a lot of times before so don't feel the need to spend all day in the park, so just going for the afternoon and evening suited us well.

We have been to MVMCP twice now and have enjoyed it both times.

Thanks for taking what I know was a big block of time during the Holidays to write your report, Tony. It was good to see you got into the parks yesterday and today and good to hear you enjoyed Beaches and Cream and Kona Cafe.

Please, allow me to add another reply to this installment.

The photo in front of the Mickey flowerbed by the Train Station is really a wonderful picture of the two of you. Looks like a Christmas card to me!
