I agree with hematite153, I too would ask BIL to bring along his partner and have a separate dinner. It's sad when people can't be together because of discimination. What's up with that?
 It doesn't matter who you love. I would definetly include him as part of the family. I also wouldn't care what other people thought either.  Good luck and I'm glad that it went OK.
