I know almost all of the details. I was the person who asked Michael Eisner questions about Figment and Dreamfinder at the 1009 and 2005 shareholder's meetings and gave a friend a proxy and he asked questions at the 2000 shareholder's meeting.

Robo has a minor error, in that the initial name of the attraction was Journey Into Imagination. What is kindly referred to as The Disaster was named Journey Into Your Imagination. And the current version is Journey Into Imagination With Figment.

There are two web sites which can be viewed:
www.figmentsimagination.com run by a person named TJ in Pennsylvania. It has videos of the original attraction.

The other is www.friendsoffigment.org which is run by a person named Howard in Chicago. At the current time Howard is having problems with the company which bought out his web host, and is in the process of moving to a different (and much more stable) hosting service. It is expected that the site will be back in full operation some time in January 2010.

Friends of Figment was instrumental in getting the current version in. And in the current version there is a blatently hidden tribute to that Organization.

And we are still working to bring back The Dreamfinder.

For additional information, here is the "script" I used at the 2005 Shareholder's Meeting and a transcript of Mr. Eisner's response. The only change I made is removing my last name,

My name is Michael *******, from Orlando Florida, home of Figment. I have been a shareholder for over 15 years.

Michael:

Ten years ago at the shareholders’ meeting I asked you about the exclusive Epcot character Figment and, why, in spite of his popularity, little was done to promote him and his co-star character Dreamfinder. Your response then was that you were looking for a good vehicle for him.

Five years ago at the shareholders’ meeting in Chicago, you were asked again about Figment who had then been ‘discontinued’ as a Disney character. At that time you announced that “Figment has gone to Figment Heaven”.

Now, five years later, it’s time once again to review the state of Disney’s Figment character.

Thanks to popular demand there has been a resurrection: Figment is not only back at Epcot in the Journey Into Imagination ride; there also is another Epcot attraction featuring Figment that just opened, a meet and greet photo location named “Figment’s Place”.

Unfortunately for the newer attraction, Disney Entertainment has come up with a walk-around Figment which towers over guests at 6 feet 9 inches tall, all because they wanted a “huggable” Figment character. The result was a big freaky Figment, blown up entirely out of proportion, much like the one that you ordered shelved back in the 1980s. On the Internet, it has been nicknamed “Figzilla”!

It’s not that people don’t like “huggable” characters; in fact, I’d personally love a “huggable” Jessica Rabbit. (Anyway...)

As for Figment and Dreamfinder, they always belonged together; they were created to play off of each other. Figment was always intended to be tiny, an extension of Dreamfinder, not a stand alone, overblown, ‘Barney dinosaur wannabe’.

A face character Dreamfinder, relating with and performing for guests with a cute baby-like Figment puppet, evolved into a magical relationship, and created a significant following. In their role as ambassadors of Epcot, these two characters became an important part of the theme park experience; cultivating repeat visits for many guests. There are even press accounts of people who credit those two characters with saving and improving the quality of their loved one’s lives.

Recently both characters came out on an expensive, collectible pin. People lined up for hours, and the pin sold out on the spot! It’s painfully obvious that the fans miss the Dreamfinder. Figment misses the Dreamfinder. The Dreamfinder misses Figment and the Epcot guests. All involved would benefit greatly by their return. Since your affection for Figment is on the record, and because we know that you authorized the return of Figment from “Figment Heaven” to Epcot, we turn to you once again for your help.

Thank you for returning our friend Figment, and even though you may have other things on your mind right now; please, as one Michael to another...

It’s time to bring Dreamfinder back home.

How about it?

Mr Eisner’s Response:

Well… This is an excellent, excellent question, one of the best questions of the year.
This is proof positive of the lack of real power of a CEO in American corporations. It also is proof positive that I’m not the micromanager that I’m depicted to be.
Because I agree with you; but I’m the only one who agrees with you.
I have not been able to elicit the passion you expressed in our animation department, in our live-action department, and in Mr. Iger to my left.
However, we’ll keep trying; we’ll keep suggesting.
And maybe I’ll take you to the next meeting that I go to on Figment down in Florida.

I LOVE Figment!! When I was little I firmly believed that he was a real part of my imagination. I loved the old ride with Dreamfinder and about cried when I rode the new one this summer. DOesn't matter-still has my figment! I still have my stuffed one from 2nd grade

Thanks so much for posting the video link, and the links to the two figment sites.

I have very fond memories of the original version of Journey Into Imagination. I believe that I managed to miss the "The Disaster" version. The new version, while enjoyable, just isn't in the same league as the original. DD15 fell in love with Figment, and pretty well demanded that I buy a CD with the song on it. She now has the song on her Ipod so she can listen to it whenever she wants.

I would love to see a refurb of Journey into Imagination, reintroducing Dreamfinder, and giving Figment the major role in the attraction that he deserves. The ride isn't bad now, but I feel that it would be so much better if they returned to it's roots a bit.

Is it?? That's good to know, It wasn't when I was there in 2004. (Figment was in it but the song was not)

Figment is my favourite character of all times. I have a number of Figment stuffed toys at home and also one on my desk at work. I also collect pins and mainly concentrate on Figment pins.

I was lucky enough to experience the original ride during my honeymoon in 1998 and loved it. I hated the second Figment free version. Even though the present version is nowhere near as good as the first, I do this a couple of times on each visit just to see Figment.

When Figment returned, he brought the song with him.

The song is the actual finale to the current ride.

(You must have been so unimpressed with the revision, overall, that
your mind was numbed into missing the tune. )

Even Eric Idle finally joins in, singing along with the song.
He appears (rocking back and forth) as the "Man in the Moon," in likely the most imaginative
and fanciful scene (and one that is most like a scene from the original ride)
in the current attraction.

This ride looks like they subbed it out as a 6th grade class project because they HAD to have something fill that building so they threw some track down and had the kids rummage through their garage and attic to find some junk to paint and throw up on the walls. Even the imagination playground is barely amusing for more than a few seconds of swinging your arms around or stepping on lights. I would rather ride IASW and get stuck at the end than ride this ride now. Hopefully their contract will require changes soon.

To be completely honest, I do not enjoy Figment or Journey into Your Imagination, both seem out of place in a Disney park. I got off that ride thinking it was five minutes I would never get back :S Really an odd ride...

Was my favorite ride. I have a Figment figurine on my desk that I got in 1991.

I went back to Disney for the first time since 91' last week and the first thing I rode was this ride. Yes it was disappointing, but at least it still had figment.

I also missed the songs Tomorrow's Child from Spaceship Earth and the song Universe of Energy from the Universe of Energy ride. I still liked the world showcase, but I feel like the rides at Epcot are not as good as they used to be.

We love Figment too! I wish the old attraction was there but it just wouldn't be a visit to Epcot with seeing Figment.

We love Figment! It is something we do a few times each trip. It isn't our favorite, but we still love it.

1) Yes, I like Figment (the character).
2) There are two figments ion the computer room.
3) Plus, I still have three of the Figment key chains (out of manufacture).
4) But, I still do not like the ride when changed from the original.

NOTE: When they put Dreamfinder and Figment back into ride, they did not put back all the track, so the ride is shorter and not impressive at all. The removed track sections made for more shop/souvenir area, so I guess money was more important than the ride. Duh.
