HELP! My Family Doesn't Understand My Disney Obsession: a horror story

Well we've always gone to WDW every 2 years, but now that's really starting to be too long to be away for me. (I'm sure most DISers will understand this)
We're going this February, and I'm trying to convince my family to plan another trip for sooner than 2012, but it seems to be no use.
"We already go a lot," they say or, "that's too much!"

Any other DISers been in this situation? Any advice? Any stories?
TIA!

You could always do a solo trip, or go with a friend instead to go more often.

That's how my family is. We go once every 3 years and they've told me after our June trip that it is too often.

So I've started doing a solo trip. I did one this year and it was wonderful. I'm now starting to plan for one the first week of Dec. 2010. I don't go for a full week but did 4 days and it wasn't quite enough so now I'm looking at increasing it to 5 days.

DH says he doesn't care as long as the kids are ok. (I work part time and am home for the kids after school.)

Thought I'd add, don't let my signature fool you - we did several 3 day trips this year to get full use out of the AP we had. I won't make that mistake again. I think that's what finally got the rest of the family to say they are done with Disney for 4 or 5 years.

I had the same problem, and found a very simple solution: If no one wants to go with me, I go solo.

I loved my first solo trip so much that I bought into DVC a couple of months later, as it greatly lowered my cost for the deluxe-level rooms I wanted. Now I got to WDW twice a year. I always ask around and see if friends or family want to come; if not, I book a studio and go on my own.

I can get up when I want to, arrive at the parks when I want, eat when and what I want, spend as much time shopping or taking photos or lounging by the pool as I want. It's lovely.

Go solo or with a friend or relative. Can you go to a beach in FL to make them happy and you go to the parks a few days?

DH and I both love Disney, but he only wants to go once a year or maybe even less, whereas I could go a few times a year. So this fall(2010) I'm getting a group of my girlfriends together and we are going to go and have a girls trip. I'm not brave enough to go solo yet, but maybe one day.

I am very happy for you that you can go solo. I don't think I could enjoy it as much without my family.

In the same boat

I love Disney...and everything Disney!!!

My DH, not so much. He will tolerate it MAYBE once a year.

So, I take my kids and my mom, saves money on the cost of the room and she actually enjoys it with me rather than just tolerates it.

I also have a wonderful friend who is as Disney crazed as I am and we go on an annual "mommy trip". We get up early, stay up late and eat fancy meals (ones I would never take my kids to). Doing different things every time!

It is really fun to see Disney with other people and I have had a great time each time I go...

Haven't tried it solo...YET!!!

I love being at Disney, and find that planning our trip is half the fun. I would love to go every year! But while my family (DH, DS-20 and DD-18) also love Disney, they tell me there are other places they want to visit too. So yeah, I hear ya!

I am living your nightmare with you. DH and I have taken DS to WDW 10 times since he was 6 and he is now 16. DH is over WDW, and so is DS. Me? Waaaaaaaah. I feel like I have to give on this and suffer in slience (well, except for when I can whine on threads here on the DIS). We did have a 10 day trip to WDW this past Jan/Feb, but I fear I am moving into a looooong dryspell. We have family trips plans to Palm Springs and Hawaii next year, but no WDW for me. I have to live my dreams through everyone else's trips on the boards for the time being.

It sounds lovely to me! Right now DD is still in total Disney mode (she's almost 9 and we just got back from her 3rd trip). So I know she'll still be my awesome touring partner for some time to come. DH is not a Disney fan, so Lil and I go without him. So far my problem has been that too many people want to come with us (I'm longing for a Mom/Lily trip soon)! I imagine there will come a day when Lily won't have time for WDW trips with dear old Mom, and if I can't sell DH on "adult" Disney (I think he might prefer fancier dinners and every evening at Epcot, etc), then I'll be making some solo trips! I secretly think it sounds great!!

My friend Tiger lives near WDW and he'd come hang out with you. Do you play golf?

How about a family vacation that includes other Orlando attractions?
I've heard Universal and SeaWorld are nice, and you could hit WDW for a a day or two while in the area. So far, my family has been Disney-pure, but as DS gets older I know he'll want to see Harry Potter and ride wilder coasters.

Maybe it is too soon to talk to them, why don't you try again couple months after your next trip. There is no real need to plan that in advance. Also ask them where would they like to go instead, there are other vacational destinations you all can enjoy as well.
