Paintball gun for beginner...need advice

I was looking to get a paintball gun for my DD but I need advice. I'd rather not spend over $100 (especially since this is his first gun - I need to make sure he likes it.) I saw a set at Wal-mart for $55 (gun, face mask, etc.) I forgot the name of the brand. Pondering going back & getting it.

Any tips or specifics I should look for or avoid?

I would go check out the paintball stores first to compare. There are so many different features.

What about filling the air tank? Are you planning on getting an air tank? I would make sure that you it is capable of getting filled at the places you play paintball if you are not getting one.

I don't really know much about the guns so can't help you there. I have played paintball once, it hurts.

I just asked my ds19. Lets just say his gear has been sitting in the closet. If you live where you are just going to shoot the gun off in the woods etc, then its o.k. But around here you go to indooor and outdoor places. Alot of the places you are NOT allowed to bring your own paint. Paint itself is a fortune. You can get a cheap case on line. Also as the other posters said, you have to go to a place to fill up the tank. How old is your son? Do you think he will loose interest fast? My ds equipment is worth $$, then some of the kids then want the clothing that goes with it, like one pair of paintball pants is $40. My ds says look up actionvillage.com. to compare stuff.
