Aaa/caa 2010 dcl benefits

The below is from my CAA travel agent:

I spoke to Disney Cruise Lines today because I have other files booked with them also
for 2010. The CAA/AAA agreements have been signed now for next year. They are no
longer offering shipboard credits but in place... beverage credits & welcome/and/bon voyage
baskets in your cabins. You will get a US$45 beverage credit and your sister will get only
$25US since she is in a category 10. You still get your $25 online OBC's for originally booking
online. I will forward your file to Ian before I leave here on the 15th.

That's pretty sad. My first DCL cruise was booked through AAA, and we received an OBC and a gift basket with wine in our room. Oh well.

Another reason to book with a different agent. I've not found AAA to know much at all about the cruises (when I interviewed them once it was obvious that I knew WAY more than the agent.) IMHO, the welcome aboard fruit basket was a joke. There is so much food available on the ship that there's no reason to pay for more to be delivered to a room!

What is a "beverage credit" and how is that different than an OBC?

I have seen other TA's offer beverage credits in the form of a coupon book. A coupon for a cocktail or a bottle of wine....maybe that is what the beverage credit is for. It obviously can't be for soda!!!

This is great if you drink, but if you don't, not good. We use our shipboard credits for things like floats at Castaway and tips. I guess we will book through somebody else for our next cruise.

Does anybody know if this applies to cruises that are already booked -- we are going in January?

In addition, does anybody know if other TAs are changing how they handle shipboard credit?

That's a bummer. I was waiting to see if they did special cruise incentives in January like they have previously. I was going to check a few TA anyway so we shall see who gives the best deal. Thanks for the info!

Remember to look for the best service as well as the best "deal." Look for someone who works the way YOU want to work--be that on line, by phone, or in person. Many TAs will offer you all options. Look for one that has hours beyond 9-5, M-F (that's never when emergencies occur). Look for a person that you truly LIKE rather than one you feel "stuck" with.

Thanks, I'll take that into account. There was a long time between when we decided to cruise and when we were able to set a date (about a week ago). I have been reading peoples comments on TAs here and other places. I may have information overload by now. LOL

OP: Did you book online then transfer your ressie to AAA? If so, DCL pays a lesser commission to transferred ressies vs. those booked by the TA with DCL.

Did they say if it would be the same perks for you either way?
