Missing my loving dog

I had to put my dog to sleep last night after 11 wonderful years with him. He was a beautiful and loving chocolate laborador retriever. He has been putting up such a good fight for the last year and a half. He had an enlarged heart. He had fluid around his heart and coughed frequently because of it. I did everything I possibly could to help him to have a good quality life after finding out. I really believe he was just ready to go. He was tired of fighting.

I am really missing him terribly. I feel in some ways like I let him down because I could not do more. The vet did tell my family that he would never get better, but in my heart I always hoped that the medicine would make it better. It is ripping my heart to pieces. Thanks for listening.

My heart breaks with you.
I lost my beloved Bulldog in June.
You did everything you could and your beloved Lab knew that. He is at peace now.
God bless and I will say prayers for you tinkerbell615.

I'm so, so sorry. I am sure that you gave him a wonderful, loving home and he lived a very happy life with you and your family. Labs are special dogs with such loving personalities.

We had to but our beloved black lab to sleep in July due to a horrible brain tumor and it broke our hearts. It is still hard on us, she was such a loving dog and a huge part of our lives.

Dogs are so special, it is very hard when they have to leave us. They are just not with us long enough.

I am so incredibly sorry. It hurts so very bad to lose a beloved pet. I lost my little parakeet on Monday, woke up and she was gone. I keep questioning myself over and over and wondering if I did something wrong to make her die. But there isn't. You did the best you could and the most loving thing to ease your pup's pain. I dread the day where I may have to make that decision, but thankfully our last dog went on her own while we were away from home.

God bless you and your sweet doggy. I hope you feel better in time.

10 years ago yesterday we went through the same thing. We had a Black lab that was 15 yrs. and we had to put her to sleep. It was one of the hardest things we ever had to do. My heart goes out to you. It will get easier but it will always be with you. She was part of our family.

I'm so sorry. We do get so attached to our furry friends. I remember the day we put our Teddy down... .

I am so sorry for your loss. We had the same type of problem with our chi/mix. We had to take him to have the fluid drained and finally we said it was time. It is a hard decision but you know in your heart that you did what was best for him.

I'm so sorry. Sending you hugs and prayers. It is so difficult to loose a pet. They really are a part of the family.

You didn't let him down. You provided a wonderful, loving home for him as well as proper medical care. You did the proper things for him. Take comfort knowing he is no longer in pain.

I'm so sorry for the loss you suffered. I have a yellow Lab who is almost 7 and I worry how much time she has left. Dogs never get angry at you, you never disappoint them, all they want is to love you and be loved in return. I'm sure your beloved pup knew how much you loved him. You did everything you could. It was just his time. I pray you find peace in the memories you have of your beloved Lab.

Thank you everyone. I know in my heart that it was the right thing to do, but I keep thinking... maybe if I had just waited another day he would have felt better. I know he probably would not have, but that's what I keep thinking.

We do have another dog that is 4 years old. I love her very much, but to be honest... she will never be the same as my Snickers. He was just a sweetheart. Very well behaved and loved everyone. She does not have the same temperment he did. She loves us very much, but not everyone else. I found her as a pup and she is pretty "skittish" and very protective of us.

You are all so kind.

Keep an eye out for any strange behavior from your 4 year old dog. She may mourn the loss of Snickers. I understand what you are saying about her not being the same. Sometimes you are closer to one.

When I had a cat pass away my dog was really mourning the loss of her. She was mourning so bad that I had to get another cat for her. She just wouldn't snap out of it. We had only had the cat for 6 months so I was very shocked.

I am sorry for your loss. My little 13 1/2 dog died in October of congestive heart failure. It was rather unexpected and very quick. He died at home with me at his side. I thought of our dog Cider alot today. He loved people and always enjoyed when we had a houseful at Thanksgiving. As sad as his passing was I was very thankful that he didn't suffer. Before he collapsed he wagged his tail as I spoke to him. I feel that was his gift to me. Let yourself grieve for his loss. He was an important member of your family.
