Will this work? re:SWA

The price for our upcoming trip came down significantly on SWA. While I was looking, the return leg went back up! So, I purchased the departing flight only; no return yet.

If the departing flight goes lower, can I rebook, put the remainder in credit, & then use that credit to book the return flight when I'm ready?

Of course, it mat not go lower, but maybe I'll get lucky.

Yes, but to actually get the credit, you must rebook your departing flight at the lower price. Just go to Travel Tools, then 'change air reservation'.
Credits are 'stored' in you confirmation #.
When you purchase your return flight, you enter the conf # that's linked to your credits on the payment page where it says 'Apply Ticketless Travel Funds'.

SWA has changed how they bank credits so each person on your departing flight will have a little, mini subcredit. When you book the return flight, you can only apply 3 'sub credits' plus a credit card # or 4 subcredits max if not needing to enter a cc. Depending on the quantity and amount of your subcredits and how much leftover balance you need to put on a cc, you may have to book separate ressies for return flights to be able to use all of your credits.
For example: we are a family of 4. When I see a price drop, we have 1 conf # but still get 4 subcredits, one for each of us. When I apply these to another flight, if they don't cover the cost of all 4 of us, I still need to add a cc # therefore then can only use 3 subcredits plus the credit card. So then I need to put dh on a separate ressie just to use all of the credits.

Does this make sense? Can be a PITA to have 2 return conf. # esp if trying to check in online via cell phone. Last trip we had 3 ressies; 2 to use up credits and 1 for Rapid reward. We ended up with high B passes even though we started entering info in our phone 5 mins in advance.
