Driving home.. hotels in Georgia
Well.. my fiance and I will be driving to Disney World next June for our Disneymoon. We decided to drive.. because we both love road trips. However we want to find someplace to stay on the way there and on the way back. We found a hotel near Chattanooga,TN for our way down. But we are having trouble finding a place on the way back. We are wanting to drive 6 to 7 hours the first day driving back... and from Disney, that puts us somewhere in Georgia. We are really just wanting to find someplace inexpensive but safe and clean.. just to sleep for the night. Oh, and we live in Indiana... you might need to know that to help us. I don't know how many of you drive that drive or would know of any place.. but any help would be awesome and greatly appreciated!!

We've made this drive many times to and from Chicago.
We have stayed at a very nice, clean and safe Holiday Inn in Cartersville, GA about a dozen times. It is about 30 minutes north of Atlanta. If you are looking for someplace further south of Atlanta, there is a very nice, clean and inexpensive Microtel in Perry. It was brand new when we stayed there last May. The staff was very nice and they had a great complementary breakfast buffet. Let me know if you have any questions about the drive. We have been doing it since 1993. I just recently got the nerve up (barely)to fly.

I would highly recommend the Hampton Inn located off exit 333 in Dalton, Georiga.

I live in GA and make the trek down I-75. It takes us 8ish hours to get to Disney so I don't have experience staying at specific hotels in GA, but can tell you what towns I'd consider staying along the way. 6-7 hours in puts you in or near Atlanta depending on construction in south GA! Iwould consider the towns of Morrow or Locust Grove or Stockbridge as third option. Morrow has a mall located right off I-75, thus hotels and restaurants too. Morrow is the closest in to Atlanta without actually going through the city. Locust Grove has an outlet mall right off I-75, it's just a little further out of the city.
If you wanted to push through the city I agree with famsen, head to Cartersville. I'd also consider Kennesaw which is a little closer to Atlanta. If you'd prefer to stop before you reach the Atlanta area, then I wouldn't stay in Macon (about 90 miles s. of Atlanta), but rather I'd choose Perry. Perry is just south of Macon. I have a friend who travels to Perry regularly, and could get you a recommendation of a hotel if you'd like. One word of caution about the lovely traffic in the Atlanta area; if you are traveling back through on a Sunday, you are likely to encounter heavy traffic from Macon on through Atlanta. The majority of the beach traffic converges in Macon on Sunday afternoons. June doesn't tend to be as bad as July, so hopefully it won't be too much of an issue for you. Good luck and congratulations! |

When we moved from LA to GA, we stayed at the Ramada Inn Limited in Locust Grove (exit 212 on I75 north, then right). It's about exactly 6 hours from WDW. It was very clean, had an indoor pool, and was around $55 for the night. There was plenty of food nearby, as well as 1,2, and 3 exits north.
Here is a link. Ramada Inn

You will have less traffic if you drive through Atlanta late at night and stop north of the city. We do not do the Atlanta bypass but go through downtown and it is not bad at night.
If you stop south of Atl, we stayed at the Holiday Inn Perry and I would definitely avoid it. Check where you are staying in Chattanooga--many of the hotels are not truly on the way to FLA but require you to drive through the city and then backtrack. You want to stay on 24 or 75 south. Have a great trip! |
