Unhappy Palo solo?

Sorry in advance to sound like a prat but I'm cruising alone with my three young sons. Originally my husband was supposed to go but due to lots of circumstances we decided I would take the boys and meet him in Barcelona. I really feel sorry for myself I'll miss out on the Palo dining experience. Does anyone ever visit Palo solo? I understand it's a glam, romantic, meal but I really don't want to miss it.

If you wish to, go for it. I've done Palo solo. The servers will fuss over you like crazy and you'll have a great time. For a more casual, less romantic atmosphere, do tea or brunch.

Thanks for your reply. I know I'm not the only one traveling 'alone'. I just didn't want to miss out on the Palo experience everyone's talking about. I may opt for tea or brunch rather than dinner but we'll see how brave I get.

Absolutely go solo if you want to--you will enjoy it. Another idea is that you might find another solos traveller on your meet thread who would enjoy dining with you.

Cheers for your reply. I did meet a gal (on here) who's also traveling solo with her kids so we'll see what happens. May be a fun 'date'.
I'm surprised there's not threads on folks cruising single with children on here. I just wrote a little email to 'Dave' (Passporter) because the Passporter guide doesn't address the issue either. In this day and age there must be a lot more single parents out there taking their kids on holiday.

I would definitely do Palo solo if I had to. The meals are too good to miss! Hubby and I have also dined with solo travelers we met here on the DIS so you can go that route if you would like company. Otherwise, just eat alone, have a peaceful meal and enjoy.

On the 7 day cruises, check your Navigator for "single parent or traveling solo" activities--typically a lunch hosted by a member of the cruise staff. It's just a time to talk, not a "meat market" situation at all.

Thanks for everyones kind, encouranging words. I'll definagely give it a go! We're booked on the 8 night West Med cruise so maybe they'll have the singles lunch on our cruise.
Feel much better for asking. It's sort of been bugging me.

We are on the same cruise. My DH is travelling with us but just wanted to chime in that I have seen several solo diners in Palo and they all seemed to be enjoying their meal. I think if you want to relax and enjoy some quiet time then thats fine but if you are wanting a chat the servers seemed to spend a little longer chatting at the table of the solo diners.

Thanks Mel. I feel SO much better. Im so looking forward to our cruise it was just this one thing I have a little hang up about. Well that and the fear of seasickness. Seasickness cruising solo can't be a good combo. No hubby to hold my hair back and listen to me whine and moan!

Oh definitely!
I went to dinner at Palo by myself. Dh was supposed to come with me but we had a little tiff (yes, on a vacation nonetheless). He didn't want to go and I decided to go without him.
I had the best time. The server went all out and I tipped him generously. He even packed up an extra dessert for me to take back to the room... sigh...

That was great. The only bad thing is if you are not comfortable dining by yourself it could get weird. But try it anyways, you won't be sorry.
Oh and another bad thing is you can only eat so much by yourself. So you can't try as many dishes as much as if you have another person with you

I just have to add that every cruise I have been on we have had parents traveling alone with kids AND people cruising all by themselves. In fact, in 9 days we will be cruising and having dinner with a single traveller we met from the DIS My point is it is very common so don't worry about seemnig out of place at all.

Very comforting! Seems there must be cruise travel guides for singletons. I'm not 'single' however since I'm travelling single it would be nice to have assurance I wouldnt be alone, I'm not weird or strange (not as such) and I just want to have a good time and enjoy my holiday just like the rest of the couples.
Thank goodness for this forum!

If there is a Dis Meet group hook up with them. Often a group will do the private dining room together. That's how I did brunch this past summer when I was in the same circumstances as you. It was fun spending some time with a nice group of people. Although I was planning to go alone since Palo brunch is my favorite.

Enjoy your cruise.

Do you guys recommend doing Palo on a first cruise too? I wouldn't want to miss out on the other restaurants.
