First Thanksgiving without my mom

We have a big day planned with dad and family tomorrow. Huge meal, etc. Everyone will be there except mom. It's been hard to even think about the holiday's. But here they are. Have thrown myself into planning and preparation to try not to think about it. But the tears still manage to come at some point or another. Thinking tomorrow is going to be bittersweet, not sure if that's a good word to describe it. I miss her so much.

to you. This will be our first Thanksgiving without DFIL and our second without my Dad. As I recall, I did ok with Thanksgiving last year because I thought back to happy times with my Dad and focused on those memories. It was rough in the weeks before Christmas though. To tell you the truth, that caught me by surprise because I had been coping so well up until that point.

My heart goes out to you.

I'm so sorry, I know how you feel. This will be my 3rd without my mom and 2nd without my dad. It will be hard, just try and think about how much she would want you to enjoy the holiday, that helped me to get through it.

Mine too.
2nd without my dh's dad.

Both died at Christmas time. We're going to Disney this year to give ourselves a much needed holiday filled with joy instead of sorrow. My poor little girl has spent the last two Christmases dealing with death and funerals and she's only six.

to you...
I know how you feel. This is all fairly new and raw for me too. It's been 5 months since my dad passed. Going through all of these "first" events without him is tough. The empty spot at the table will be a painful reminder. But I am thankful that I had the time with him that I did, and that I was fortunate enough to have had a great dad. Not everyone can say that.
We plan to take the time tomorrow to acknowledge his absence, and then to celebrate all of the wonderful memories we have of him.

I'm sorry live4christp1, many of us share your pain . This is my 5th Thanksgiving w/o my dear Dad . Altho I think time has helped ease the pain, there is always that empty place in your heart, specially reminiscing around the holidays. I cling to his loving memories and the good times we were blessed to share. I am thankful I can visit his resting place often as somehow it makes me feel better. My dear Mom is a BC survivor and I don't even want to think about the holdiays w/o her too . Godspeed and big ((hugs)) to all those missing your loved ones as they smile down upon you from aobve.

I lost my mom one week ago yesterday. I am sitting in a hotel room writing this, as the funeral was yesterday and we don't fly home until Friday. My DSis and her family left this morning, and we spent all this week cleaning out the house (Dad died in 93). We will be going to some friends house for Thanksgiving- they were kind enough to invite DH, all 4 kids and me. But, it is so hard. I am not sure it has really hit me that she is gone, but it feels so empty and lonely. I guess I am officially an orphan (okay, it doesn't really count at my midcentury age!). At least all 4 kids are here- DD21 from college and then DD17, DS13 and DD12.

God bless all of you who are also missing a loved one this holiday. Remember, one step at a time and we can get through this!
