Can someone give me a plan for taking the boat from DHS to Cape May

We are leaving DHS to go to dinner at Cape may and then plan to return back to DHS after dinner. I think the boat would be nice either on the way or on the way back, or maybe both. I don't want to burn a whole lot time on it though. So where to do I catch it when we're leaving DHS, and will it take a lot more time than just walking or taking the bus?

You can't take a bus, so that isn't an option. There are no buses from DHS to the Epcot resorts.
If you decide to take the boat, you will see the boat dock off to the left as you leave the park area. You would go right to head to the buses, so stay to the left. YOu will see the walkway down to the boat. The boat ride itself, from DHS to YC/BC is about 20 mins..but you may have a wait for a boat to come. If the boat is just leaving as you get there, you may have up to 15+ mins before the next one comes. THe boat will stop at S/D first, then go to YC/BC, then BW, and on to Epcot. The boat going back to DHS will stop at BW, then YC/BC, S/D and head back to DHS.
The walkway is in the same direction as the boat dock. Just keep the parking lot on your right, the canal on your left, and follow the walkway down to the canal area. It is well marked to BW/S/D. The walk itself takes about 20 mins to YC...when you get to the rear of BW, you will see a bridge to your left. Go up to the bridge but go right, away from the S/D. You will then be walking towards YC/BC...on your left, with the lake on your right.
I'm pretty sure Robo will be along with a map for you.

Depending on the line for the boat, walking can definitely be quicker. If you have to wait for more than one, it's almost definitely quicker.

We left HS one evening to go to EP (well before park close) and the line for the boat was at least 2-3 boats long. We started walking and made it to the BC/YC before the *first* boat even arrived.

We do this walk regularly since we most often stay at BCV. I think the walk is faster unless you see the boat pulling up to the dock (with no line waiting) right as you are exiting DHS. The walking path is nice and wide, easy to push a stroller. My only negative thoughts are if it's hot, the walk can be unpleasant as there is no shade along the way.

I would plan on about 25 minutes from the DHS exit to Cape May if you are walking.
