Tree lighting at EPCOT

So everyone says to make sure we make it to the tree lighting, but what time is it and where is it? Sorry if this is a dumb question, but Im sure I know where this is. People also say the tree lighting is at "dusk," but that could be somewhat of a time range, and I dont' want to miss it, nor do I want to stand around wasting time by getting there earlier than I need to. So what time DO is the lighting ceremony and where should I be standing to make sure i see it?

They no longer perform this ceremony.

They do light the tree, but it is just a brief recording.
The choir no longer performs.

Assume a time-frame for all things "lit" during the holidays between the times of 5:45 PM and 6:30 PM.

As you take the main walkway into WS from FW, the tree is right smack in front of you - can't miss it.

I heard that Disney said that the technology required for the tree lighting ceremony was obsolete...

I know that you're joking (and making reference to the reason Disney gave for nixing the Lights of Winter.)

But the reason they gave last year for dumping the Christmas Tree Lighting Ceremony was even goofier (sorry Goofy.)

They said the Christmas Tree Lighting Ceremony was a safety hazard!

(No, I'm not joking.)

I believe it went that the tree lighting ceremony with show and characters posed a safety hazard because it encouraged too many people to squeeze into the walkway between Future World and the World Showcase.

They do still light the tree at dusk, but it's a very brief production with no "show" to speak of. If you want to see something get lit, go to MK and watch the castle lighting.

Now the Lights of Winter will be absent, so there won't be any reason to linger in that area for anything (unless that's where they set up the new gospel choir. I won't notice, I'll be in the tequila bar, getting lit - something at Epcot has to.)

Both are now a part of the new tour...."Where Did Christmas Go?"

Disney is charging double - since so many people miss the Christmas events which are obsolete and safety hazards.

I wonder what the excuse was for not changing Country Bears? Maybe the little Santa hats the bears wore were a choaking hazard!

You just made me spew soda all over my monitor. We''' be there in about two weeks and originally scheduled the trip specifically to see all the Christmas stuff. I sure hate that the Lights of Winter won't be there this year. I don't think anybody is buying 'the technology is obsolete' excuse. Disney is just being cheap!

IIRC, the official line was that the Christmas and Vacation versions of CBJ did not significantly impact the numbers of people the attraction draws, and having it down for a few weeks each time during the changeovers did, so they were dropped. (Personally, I think Big Al kept forgetting his lines...)
