Family of Five

I was just wondering if you guys could help me out with figuring out what staterooms are options for a family of five when cruising? Thanks!

Look at "pictures of bed railing" [5-enteries down from yours] to get an I D what A 5 sleeper cat -4 looks like.

Also keep in mind two lower cat, connecting staterooms could be more economical if that's an issue.

Don, what part of Indiana do you live in? I grew up in Elkhart. In the UK now!

Your choices depend in part on the age of your crew, your desires, and what specials are running. With Kids free, the cat 4 with 3 free kids will be cheapest. However, without that special your options are connecting cabins (2 cabins next to each other with an inside door between, door can be propped open), an outside cabin with a balcony or window and an inside cabin across the hall (great for teens!), or the cat 4. 2 cabins will give you A LOT more space than a 4, and can be cheaper.

We are a family of 5 (me, DH, DS8, DS6, and DD2). On our last cruise we stayed in 2 connecting category 9s. It was great! The kids stayed in one room and we stayed in the other. When DD2 was napping, nobody bothered her. Whoever was up first, came into our room and let the others sleep. Having 2 bathrooms was handy, too.

Goofy Mum--my aunt lives in Elkhart. She has lived there for 25+years.

Oh wow Sylvia! I'm orginally from CHICAGO! But during my school years I lived in Elkhart. It truly is a Small World After All!

ha ha Don! Me thinks not! I don't miss that Midwest winter weather at all. We don't get much snow in England and the grass stays green all year round. Today was a bit damp and windy but only needed a sweatshirt to go out in! Enjoy your blizzards! (not the DQ kind!)

Sorry to hijack the thread BTW

We are a family of 5. Boy the world seems built for families of 4, doesn’t it?

All in one room = category 4 or lower.

If two rooms (connecting or not) = any category.

What is your goal? Lowest price? Lowest price with a window? Lowest price with a veranda?
What ship?
When do you want to go?

We have booked on the Wonder in January a category 4. We booked with the ‘kids sail free’ promotion and it was during about the lowest cost time of the year.

Basically, when the kids are not in school its more expensive.

We also have booked on the Magic in 2011 two of the ‘secret port hole’ connecting rooms. These rooms have a window or port hole but the view is partially obstructed so Disney charges them as catagorie 10 or ‘inside’ rates.

These rooms are a secret so don’t tell anyone. Shhhhhh. LOL, I'm kidding. Lots of people know about this.

Actually to get these rooms you need to jump on them when the reservations first open up.

We are a family of 5. Economically it worked out better for us with 2 Cat 9 connecting cabins. The 2 bathrooms are a plus and extra storage. We have stayed in the deluxe family stateroom, but the boys were always fighting over the bathroom and we would have to get ready sooner. This last cruise we had 2 cabins right next to each other, but not connecting because they were not available. That was a little bit more hectic. My DH and I stayed in separate rooms because I was still hesitant to leave the boys in the room by themselves. It was nice being able to have to the middle doors open in the connecting rooms. I hope that helps.
