What makes YOUR family's Thanksgiving

DIFFERENT from the "traditional"???

I remember an old boss of mine telling me she had lasagna every year at her Thanksgiving because of her Italian roots. I thought "wow, I need to go to HER house!"

I read and see on TV how many people have mashed potatoes and green bean casserole for dinner. My family NEVER had those at Thanksgiving! At other dinners maybe but never at Thanksgiving.

Also, I've never tasted PUMPKIN pie, we ALWAYS had sweet potato pie. They look so much alike, when I mistook one for the other I

How is your family's a little DIFFERENT?

Hmm... I really can't think of anything! I guess we are very "traditional".

Growing up we were mostly traditional (turkey, mashed potatos, etc), but we had to have the yorkshire pudding.

This year we are going out to dinner with the inlaws, so I guess this year will be non-traditional. At least the place will still be serving a turkey, but some how it is still not quite the same.

I suppose the most out of the ordinary thing we do is expect the Lions to win.

Buckeyes are a peanut butter and chocolate candy. We make them every year at Christmas time. We refer to them as our homemade Reese peanut butter eggs. They are super yummy with a big ol' glass of very cold milk.

My dad always makes a Danish dish of red cabbage. It's kind of sweet and sour, and it just wouldn't be Thanksgiving without it.

I think ours is traditional all the way. I have to say that traditional seems to be different for everyone. I wouldn't consider Thanksgiving dinner traditional without mashed potatoes and pumpkin pie. I have known people who don't care for pumpkin, but until the DIS I'd never heard of anyone not having mashed potatoes.

When my late DH was still alive and we were still living in our old home, I had to cook something else for him in addition to the turkey because he never ate any kind of fowl and was allergic to seafood..

That was also the day we put up our Christmas tree - while the turkey was cooking.. Back then it was an "oddity" - not so much now..

Oh - and NO football!!! My late DH hated all sports.. It was movies all day long - except while decorating the tree - then it was Christmas music..
