My Interview Today

I met with two people - one who would be my supervisor if I were to get the Accounts Payable position and the other who would be my supervisor if I were to get the Inventory Clerk position (although there's a lot more to it than just Inventory Clerk - she is the assistant to the owners and I'd be her assistant.) First of all, I'm glad I brought an extra copy of my resume because they only had one and I was able to give the extra copy to the woman who didn't have one. BUT the interview only lasted about 15 minutes and it seemed more like they were selling the company to me (telling me the hours, telling me how the owner of the company is the type who would never ask someone to do what he himself won't do, telling me what kinds of dogs are there - there are four dogs: A Rhodesian Ridgeback, a Rottweiler mix, and two English Bulldogs - and about what a good stress relief they are) than trying to get me to sell myself to them. I did find ways to sell myself to them (mentioning specific skills that met what they had just said were job duties, letting them know I'd researched them on the Internet, etc.) but it just seemed odd that they didn't ask any real questions. Oh, and I also found out that their biggest customer (they make custom golf carts) is Disney.

I wouldn't worry too much --- at my last job interview (for the job I currently have), I hardly got asked any questions. I met with two people at the same time, and they basically just told me how the office ran and what my job duties would be. I don't think it lasted 30 minutes. I think some businesses/offices just don't do the whole long, serious interview. Especially if your resume is good, they may just want to see if you "fit" with the office.

Good luck!

That makes me feel better...and the recruiter had already told me that she told them yesterday that I have "mad skills." I've been around computers since I was little, had my own when I was five, and was entering information about my dad's record collection (and information for my mom's class reunion one year) into databases that I created from the time I was about ten. Also, this place was definitely not the serious business type of place (it seemed like the type of place where you were serious when you needed to be but the rest of the time it would be a lot of fun to work there and as the owners' assistant told me, there are about 40 people working there and they're all friends.)

We just interviewed for a position in my department a few weeks ago and we were definitely just looking for a "fit" with the rest of my department personality wise.

You can get all the other stuff from a resume, but personality is really important.

Good luck!
