Surprise Characters at The Art of Disney Animation - The DIS Discussion Forums

Hello everyone,

We just came back from a 11 days vacation at Disney World and we had quite a surprise. I don't know if it has been said before but when they don't have Fantasmic at Disney's Hollywood Studios, a lot of characters will show up at the Art of Disney Animation building between 5:00PM and 6:30PM. While we were there, we saw Jafar, the Evil Queen, Mr. Smee with Captain Hook, Mary Poppins' Penguins, the Queen of Heart, Aladdin and many more.

The animation building is great! we saw Mr and Mrs. Incredible, Carl, Russel and Dug from UP and Sorcerer Mickey there last week as well!

Those are the regulars and can be found anytime. Well, the spot where Up was is changed out every so often. It's a great

We were also there for the character extravaganza in September. I first learned about it here in the DIS, and I'm so glad we did it!! We met Pocahontas, Meeko, Ratcliffe, Queen of Hearts, Tweedles Dee and Dum, Chip and Dale, Minnie and Pluto, Goofy and Max, Mary Poppins and Mr. Penguin, Friar Tuck, the Sheriff, Jafar and the Evil Queen in less than an hour and with about ten other families. That's it!! Occasionally a lucky someone would pop in and be surprised, but it was a very low key event.

Can you confirm what days you were there? It is being reported only on NON F. nights? Did you see them on Fantasmic night?

I planned our DHS days for non-Fantasmic Days so we could do the Animation Building thing last week, and the week before we left, they added Fantasmics to BOTH days. I'm so upset the Evil Queen was there and we had to miss it!

You can not longer enter the character area fthrough the store. You have to enter in a separate line through the Animation Show. You do not have to see the show but the line is back in the area as if you were going to the show. The line by-passes the show and takes you to the character greeting area.

Really? I've gone in through the store at least a half-dozen times, including just 10 days ago, without any problems. I wonder if your experience was temporary for some reason....

We went through the store, but we had a guy stop us to tell us it was exit only. I explained we just wanted to go to the drawing class and that we had already seen the show earlier that week, and he was more than happy to let us go through

Darn, was really hoping someone was going to say Phineas and Ferb made an appearance lol.. Oh well, they'll probably be like Kim Possible and not get quite the showing they deserve

the entrance to the animation building was changed about a week ago. there's a new separate line to see just the characters.

as for the appearances, it's never guaranteed, but it generally happens every night except when F! is at 6:30 (or earlier).

4:50 and 5:20 are the sets with repeat sets at 5:50 and 6:20

Phineas and Ferb are not meetable charectors. They have never been available. Kim is meetable (and Ron, but retired) and occasionally appears on the streets of America.

BTW when we were at DHS in September the charecters were out ONLY on F! nights that week. It was the only reason we went to DHS on F! night. Guess that has changed in the past 2 months

We were there on a non-F! night in September, and we saw them. You can never be too sure with Disney schedules.

They have debuted at DLR - hopefully WDW is around the corner!! But the random set at the animation building is usually for older characters. My guess is if Phineas and Ferb appear they'll replace the UP characters.
