POP prefered room?

Never been to POP before, thinking about going this Sept if Free Dining is offered. Is it worth it to pay a little extra for a prefered room?? We like the prefred room at AS music because we are closer to the buses and food court.

We've stayed at Pop a few times and have never reserved a preferred room. Our standard rooms have been perfect for us. Granted, they are not as close to the main building and bus stops as the preferred rooms are, but that has never bothered us. We're completely ambulatory and don't mind the short walk. We've always been assigned to the 1950's section and hope to get that section when we're there in April.

To me, I'd rather spend the extra money on something else.

IMO, no. Sure, at the end of the day when you're tired, it's nice to have a shorter walk back to the room....but once you get there, the room is no different. So you spend an extra 5 minutes walking each day. Not worth $10 more a day to eliminate that to me.

Smile Preferred rooms are nice at the end of the day!

We have never had one and we've stayed there over 5 weeks over the last 3 years. But I do have to say that if you are as usy as we are, a shorter walk at the end of the night would be good. However, the rooms are all the same! We will be going back next year for 2 weeks and will not have a preferred room though. The extra money saved we'll use for buying gifts, etc..

We have stayed at POP about 5 or 6 times and have only had a preferred room once, and in my opinion it was *not* worth the extra $$. B/c our preferred room was on the back of one of the 70's buildings, it was actually further out than some of our non-preferred rooms have been. It *may* have been closer to the main pool, but as far as buses go, some of the rooms in the 80's and 90's are actually closer to the front of the resort b/c you can walk across the parking lot.

And if you have a car, the parking lots can be further away from the preferred rooms. That was what happened to us. When we have stayed in the 90s, we could park right below our room. My husband did a lot of grumbling when we stayed in that preferred room and he had to lug all of our "stuff" including Christmas decorations all the way across the resort! (Poor guy!)

Pop was pretty good.. We got lucky and got a close room to everything.. The pool and main building.. No problems.. I wouldn't pay the extra money

I wouldn't pay for a preferred room.
We stayed in the 90's and it was conviently located to everything. Our walk to the main building was about 10 minutes at the most. We rented a car and we were a 1 minute walk to that. We were also steps away from the computer pool. Great location!
Plus a lot of preferred rooms overlook the pools and you couldn't pay me to stay in one of those during a busy time of year! Those pools are *lively* at all hours. This past June we came back to our room at midnight and the pool area was as busy as it was at 3:00 in the afternoon.

I would never pay preffered at Pop. We got a preffered room once (in the 60's) and didn't 'pay extra' for it (it was an Orbitz deal) and it was further away than the other room we got there before non preffered (50's)! I just dont see the $$ being worth paying anything extra for location there, it might save you a few steps to the bus but that just isn't worth it to me. You can always request a certain section (no guaranteed though), as long as your not in the far end 90's you are about as close to the main building as the preffered area.

I agree with everyone else. No way would I pay for a preferred room at POP again. The one time we did we were on the top floor of the 60's building down close to the lake. We had requested bottom floor, close as possible to the main building, and facing away from the pool. I went back a few months later and had a standard room in the 70's that was MUCH closer to the main building and buses than my preferred room was a few months before.

The only time I would pay for a preferred room at a Value would be at AS Music. Simply because of the way that resort is built straight back from the main building it has rooms that are very far from the main building and bus stop. At AS Music it's worth paying extra to ensure you are in the Calypso building, but not at POP.

Our standard room in the 50's section was just fine, high floor in building 2, facing away from the pools and we had a great view of the fireworks, plus it was lovely and quiet.

If I'm happy to spend 12 hours a day walking around the parks, an extra 2 minutes walking to my room from the bus is no big deal.

When we were there it was really, really hot one night and there were kids running around everywhere until well after midnight. I kind of felt sorry for all the people in the "preferred" rooms around the Hippy Dippy pool.

Talking

I agree...I would not pay extra for a preferred room at POP. The walk is not that bad.

It depends...

If being close to the main building is very important to you then yes. Some of the non-preferred rooms really are not that far but there is not a guarantee that you will be in one of those so for piece of mind you may want to reserve one.
If the main building is not a priority or you don't mind walking then I would not pay for it.
We had a preferred room when we were there in May and I am glad we did. We had 2 little ones and made many trips to Everything Pop for food and mug refills, plus the resort is big. I would do it again.

You wuz robbed. There are preferred rooms on the "back" of building 10, but those are actually just a few rows of parking away from the bus and Everything Pop.
Half of that building and 1/6 of building 6 are preferred - if you've got your back to Classic Hall and are standing with building 6 on your right and building 10 on your left, the rooms between the close end of each building and its elevator core are preferred. The rooms on the backside of the building 6 preferred rooms are standard.

kaytieeldr is right. The yellow lines on the map below show Pop's preferred rooms.
