Windows 7 and Printer Problems

I just bought a new laptop that runs on Windows 7. I tried putting in my old Dell printer's installation CD, but I keep getting an error message that it can't install properly. I am guessing this is because it doesn't recognize the operating system. I ran into this problem with my camera too, but it ended up working when I tried a second time. Any idea how to resolve this? I was thinking of getting a new wireless printer, but I don't really want to buy a router (they do need a router, right)? I am pretty clueless about wireless stuff. Thanks for any help you can give!

go see if you can download windows7 drivers from dells website. that will let you keep using the printer and resolve the OS issue.

If you printer is fairly new there may be a driver in Windows 7 that you can use, otherwise go to your printers website and download a windows 7 driver.

This may help

• 32- or 64-bit. Most mainstream processors are now 64-bit, which means they can process more information at once than older 32-bit chips. As a result, many PCs now come with the 64-bit version of Windows 7. The biggest benefit: It doesn't have the memory limitations of 32-bit Windows, which can only handle 4 GB of memory. It can also speed programs written to take advantage of 64-bit computing.

But here's a caveat: You'll want to make sure that 64-bit drivers are available for your older peripherals, such as printers and scanners. Otherwise, they may not work with a new system running 64-bit Windows 7. If you have newer equipment, this is not much of an issue.

I have a brand new desktop running on Windows 7 and a brand new printer. It still doesn't have the necessary driver on the website so we sit and wait. Frustrating!
