I'm done with baking... FOREVER.

I know I'm a good cook... Very good in fact.... but I am terrible at baking. I just made some Snickerdoodles.... Not good.

Someone else can bake. I'll just cook from now on.

I hear ya! I love to cook but hate hate hate baking!

The chocolate chip cookies I made last week were flatter than pancakes. Tonight's batch was much better (after I remembered to reduce the sugar in my recipe) but I still hate baking. It's too picky and there's no flexibility.

Oh, I love to bake. I learned something early on - you have to learn your oven and adjust the times really well. My oven runs hot, so I have to take about 8 minutes off of every recipe for anything I bake to come out right. Also, I have to 'hover' around the oven even before the timer goes off, sometimes it's done even sooner than that!

Oh no, I hope this isn't a bad omen as I prepared Snickerdoodle dough today, hoping to bake them tomorrow.

I've had a much loved family friend's recipe for years and never made them before.

Their cookies always came out scrumptious so I pray mine do, as well!

I always hover, never bothering with the timer.

Baking is a science, right?

A man that can cook is good so don't worry. Your wife will keep you anyway!!

That's funny for I made Snickerdoodles today because DS asked me to. I let the butter get too soft in the microwave and it affected the quality of my cookies. I love to bake, am known in my family for my baking. I do tend to analyze my recipe after I bake it, to see what went wrong or right.

My girlfriend hates baking. She is not successful at it. Don't know why but I do know you can end up with different results even when you have made the recipe before.

I swear that some people hold the key to awesome baked goods, however, like you, I don't seem to possess that!

Not fair.....

Baking is very different from cooking. Even the chefs on Top Chef have a problem with baking. It's because measurements have to be really precise, the timing & temperature has to be right, etc. Whereas, cooking can be more improvisational & intuitive. You throw in a pinch here, a dash there.

Anyway, what was your Snickerdoodle recipe? There is a great Cookies from Cake Mixes thread here on the DIS Cooking Board. It has a Snickerdoodle recipe in one of the first few posts. It is seriously one of the best threads on the DIS:

Cookies from cake mixes! Also: BISCOTTI and Cookie BARS

Cake mixes were designed in the lab kitchens to be almost foolproof, so that they can be used by the largest variety of people, like little kids with no experience with baking, to seasoned bakers, and the cakes & cookies work out right for everyone.

With so many different cake mixes and different kinds of imaginative add-ins, you can really have fun & never have to make the same cookie twice. I guarantee you, no one else will have your cookies, and your twins will love Dad's imaginative cookie combinations.

I think I just don't have the patience to bake.... nor the desire to be exact in measuring.

These came out tasting "ok"... but they were so light and airy that they fell apart most of the time when taking them off the cookie sheet.
