How 'well' do you know your neighbours?
If we meet up outside for any reason, we always have a chat, unless we are in a rush to get anywhere of course, so just a friendly wave will do. We don't visit each others homes though. It works out great.
We would all help each other out if needed though...like our nextdoor neighbour locked himself out his house just the other day, and his spare key was with another neighbour who was out at the time. So he called on us to help him out. |

Not at all. We are the only people on our entire street who don't have kids, so apparently we're not worth anyone's time.

I don't know all of my neighbors, but I know several families quite well. I have visited the homes of several a number of times. Last Christmas, my daughter and I had Christmas dinner at the home of one neighbor family.
The families that we are close to moved into the neighborhood about the same time we did. It was a new neighborhood with all new construction. There were very few homes built at the time we moved in, so we just sort of bonded. Shortly after moving in, we were hit with the 2004 hurricanes. Prior to the storms, we went around the neighborhood, as a group, securing construction items we thought could become dangerous in the hurricane force winds. We helped each other after the storms. It brought us together and we have remained friends. I have other neighbors who have come and gone quickly. Those, I haven't gotten to know.

One side I know well- she works for the same co I do. DH calls them the 'Addams Family' because they are just strange. The other side, they moved in a couple of months ago and I haven't met them yet. I have been trying to catch them outside to introduce myself but they are never outside except to walk from the car to the house. The people across the street have been there about a year or so. I wave if I see them but I have never talked to them.

our entire street is super friendly(its a cul-de-sac)... its mostly families with kids, but there are two couples that are older with grown children. We have block parties several times a year and the kids all go from house to house almost daily... Its the reason we bought this house, actually....

I had a problem a few weeks ago and called 3 neighbors. Not one answered, and not one called us back. Thought we had a nice relationship, but I guess not. Oh well, I can find someone else to give my childrens clothes to from now on.

I know my neighbor's on both sides very well. Love them both.
One side is a husband, wife and their DD. They are great neighbors!!! I aways say, if I ever win the lottery and move, I am taking them with me!!!! The other side is a single fellow. Just divorced because his wife got mixed up in some kind of religious cult, and ran off with another guy!!!! Both him and his now ex have lived beside us for years and I NEVER expected this to happen. Boy, the dicussions we have had!!

I know my immediate neighbors pretty well. We invite each other to family parties, etc. We're pretty isolated so it is nice to know the few people who are around.

I live on a little dead end street. there is only 10 houses. That makes it sound big, but it really isn't. We all know each other, say hello, sit and chit chat I've only been visiting to one house. ) Now, I do have the neighbors from hell living on the right of me. they are constantly fighting at 2 am in the middle of the street. they tie their dogs up right at the edge of the property line so they come over to my side of the driveway ( we share a drive way) and poop all around my pool. We are putting up a fence in the spring. When you say something to them they start yelling and screaming. My other neighbors have called the cops on them numerous times. Fun times.....

Not at all. We have two neighbors we know well enough to bring each other's trash in etc. but that's about it. I miss my old neighborhood, where people were friendly. Here, people run and hide if they see someone walking down the street so they can avoid conversation.

I miss my old neighbours too. They were all great people. I used to go on river trips with my neighbour when I was a young boy.
People are different now.....for that reason I would LOVE a nice 6 foot high fence all the way around my yard.

At our 'real' house, fairly well. There's a few families who've come and gone (renters) but the people who actually own their homes are really nice people and we chat and help each other out.
Here at this house we're renting while I go to school, not at all. There was a big group that descended our first week here to scope us out, and then nada. I get the feeling they don't like us because I allow DD to play outside. Whenever she's in the yard or I'm mowing the lawn the dogs around us go nuts. Heck, when I pull into the driveway they go ballistic for an hour. They leave their animals out most of the time and many times all night so now that we're living here it's our fault that their dogs bark, (this house was vacant for almost 2 years before we rented it). My next door neighbor will also wait until I mow the lawn and then re-mow about 20 feet of it with his riding lawn mower. I'm pretty sure it's not his property because there's a long row of mature bushy pine trees that form a barrier between the two properties. He'll only do this after I mow though, and won't talk to me so I can confirm property lines. Once I heard him after dark re-mowing that section when I had mowed it that afternoon. Guess it makes him happy, but it's weird. Renting has made me really, really grateful for being able to own my own home and I can't wait to go back to our 'real' house.

We are in a development of about 40 homes. I would say I have been in about 35 of them! We are a tight group. There are about 10 families that we are very close to- hang out often and I would say another 10 that are the kind we get together with a couple times a year.
We all have each other's backs. Now there are 4 homes of families that don't talk to anyone. I have spoken with 2 of them and they are just not social but nice people. Helpful. And 2 duds. Mean, angry dogs, no socializing, wandering kids that get into trouble. But in general I feel very very lucky. |

The neighbors that I share a step with, we know very well. All we know about the woman on the other side of us is all of the info we get through the city's civil docket about her impending foreclosure, and the answers we get from our step-sharing neighbors when we ask about why her dogs have been barking night and day for 4 weeks straight.
There are about 60 other houses on our block. We don't know any of them, at all. I hate where we live. I can't wait to move. |
