breakfast in calais

Hi.
WE are off to DLP next Wednesday and staying in Ashford on Tuesday night to catch an early tunnel the wednesday morning.

I was planning on having breakfast at the little chef next to the travelodge we're staying at but I don't think we'll have time ---- THe crossing is 8am we have to be there half hour before and it will take 20-30 mins to get to tunnel from hotel, so would have to be at brealkfast at 6am ish (no easy task with 4 little ones to organise)

So just wondered if anyone knows somewhere in Calais just after tunnel that we could stop for breakfast? Just like a Mcdonalds or little chef type place?

Thanks in advance

You could call into Cite Europe which has several restaurants including a McDonalds or you could grab something to eat in the Eurotunnel terminal as there are several places in there too

If you're staying at the Travelodge at the Eureka Park it takes 15/20 minutes maximum to get to check in.

We normally get a hot drink from the terminal and then have breakfast on the train (brioches, croissants, prepared fruit, grapes and orange/apple juice).
A quick snack and a toilet break after about 1 1/2 hours (when their dvds finish) and then lunch when we arrive at DLRP (or breakfast when we got the 3.27 train at easter)

Depending how young your children are, you might be better getting to the terminal earlier and eating in there. You can get a hot breakfast eg full english or sausage / bacon sandwiches etc. When you cheeck in, it will tell you whether there is an earlier train you can get or you can choose your original time.

That is where I thought they were staying & I was going to say its only about 15 minutes away but there isn't a Little Chef there. Not sure if there is another Travelodge in Ashford

Thanks everyone.

It is the travelodge at ashford so I must be wrong about little chef - I was looking at loads of places to stop so have got muddled up.

I never thought about breakfast at tunnel. When we went before we drove straight onto train so never got to see that there was anything there! Good idea thnks.

What is cite europe then? A Hypermarket? Is it just in calais? Is it easy to miss?

I thought been as we don't have lunch included on first day we could have big breakfast on the way then an early dinner at Annettes so we are finished in time to see fantalusion etc.

Cite Europe is a decent sized shopping centre which includes a large supermarket. You can't miss it.

Hiya I stayed in Ashford Travelodge last week and there is a new mcdonalds there which has a 24 hour drive thru. So you could call for breakfast as you leave. There is also a coffee shop at the chunnel but beware its very expensive.

Waves from Ashford

There is several travelodges/premier inns in Ashford, each come with their own little restaurant/quick service near by. The one near the Little Chief is indeed 30/40 drive from the tunnel as it's actually outside of Ashford - I presumme you are going from the Eurotunnel terminal (Folkestone, shuttle) and not Eurostar (Ashford, train). There is no food available to by on the shuttle to buy, this maybe done either from the little trailer vans they have while you queue (there are toilets opposite) or at the service station off the Hythe turning on the M20, or at the other end in Calais. There may be somewhere inside the terminal but I've never stopped long enough to get out to check!

There is the Ashford thread http://www.disboards.com/showthread.php?t=2122130

You will find info on which food places are next to which hotel etc, and these cover the hotels at junction 9 off the M20. The hotels that are next to Mcdonalds are off junction 10 off the M20 :-)

From junction 10 you will need 15-20 mins to get to Folkestone, and from junction 9 you will need to allow approximately another 10 mins.

If you need any more info give me a shout, I'll only be too pleased to help!

We'd stayed at the Eureka Park Travelodge and there was a Little Chef in the hotel itself for breakfasts

I have never stayed there so didn't know this. I use the cinema in the site & have never noticed the Litlle Chef but I wouldn't if its inside the hotel.

Thanks for the info

I have stayed there several times and dont think there is a Little Chef in the hotel. They do a breakfast buffet (kids free) but thats all.

There are several options in the terminal itself though

We usually stop at the shell service station, which is about 20mins from the tunnel, and have croissants and coffee, they also do cooked breakfasts, cereals etc. I think quite a few people stop here as the car park is always full of british cars.
