Can anyone tell me about Bare Minerals make up?
My daughter will be 16 next month and she has expressed an extreme desire to try this make up. Can anyone tell me about this? I know nothing. It seems pricey. Any deals out there? What to buy her to begin with?
As you can tell, I know nothing about this. Thanks for any help you can give me!

I love my Bare Minerals makeup. I received an email from Sephora this morning saying that the starter kits of BM are on sale for $48 and free shipping with $50 purchase.
The starter kit has pretty much everything including some basic brushes. I'm thinking about ordering one just for the makeup that comes with it. Great price for $48. The Bare Minerals Buxom Mascara is great as well as the Buxom lipglosses.

I have a lot of friends that use Bare Minerals and love it! For my cousin's wedding we were all made up with Bare Minerals and I have to say that if it wasn't so expensive- I'd buy it for myself.
It's supposed to be the most natural, healthy make up there is and it does a really good job covering up problem areas while still looking natural. There is a starter kit that I believe you can buy from Sephora or probably QVC. Here are a couple of links: Here's the starter kit from ULTA $60 (I think they have free shipping..): http://www.ulta.com/ulta/browse/prod...01%20cat920029 Here's the Bare Minerals page of QVC: http://www.qvc.com/qsearch/search.aspx And the starter kit at Sephora for $48: http://www.sephora.com/browse/produc...categoryId=B70

Thanks so much for the info Lovemygoofy! We have a Sephora about 30 mins away. Love that store! In that same mall is a Bare Escentuals store. Would they be able to teach her how to apply the makeup?
My DD's biggest flaw is the foundation. She seems to put it on too heavy and gets a line. I've heard a little of the Bare minerals can go a long way...so I would love for her to hear that from them...not her cheap mom.

I got a starter kit on e-bay a good while ago. It wasn't a true BE brand, but I think it was close. At least it was marketed that way.
It was less expensive. It had everything you needed to get started along with a nice brush. The seller had a great rating and lots of positives on the product. So that might be something to try for you. That way you could see if your DD likes it, before taking a bigger plunge money wise.HTH.

Oh I love it. I used to use it every day, but since it is so expencive, now I only use it on special occasions. I use the "base" as a base (DUH - LOL) and then theres a bronzer that I LOVE to use since I'm so light. Just make sure to put it on your neck as well, or else you'll look wierd!

Hi - I've fun a fan forum for BE since 2000. The link is over to the left.
Definitely visit your BE boutique to get color matched and get a lesson in applying it. It's different than other makeup, so new users tend to use too much. Truly, a little goes a long way, and while the initial investment might be a lot of money, when you see how long it lasts you'll see that it's no more expensive than other makeup brands. I think BE is a perfect line for teenagers, and hopefully the ladies at the BE boutique can help her achieve the perfect look. You definitely won't have to worry about the "line of demarkation" that you get on your jawline! If you would like to message me privately, I can ask the ladies on my forum who they would recommend at your local boutique.

Love it.....I don't wear a lot of makeup and really like the naturally look. My face looks so flawless with it!
My starter kit foundations lasted me at least 18 months, and those are the small jars. I just bought a jar of the foundation at Ulta for $25 and it is a HUGE container. That will last me forever!!! I did go through the mineral veil a little quicker, but that isn't as expensive (actually I am using the Revlon translucent mineral powder now and it works just as good and is much cheaper). The blushes (I like the Glee) barely look used and I have had them for 18 months. I did upgrade to better brushes after about 6 months, but the brushes that come with the starter kit are decent. It really is a great system and so easy to use, the kits also come with a video to show you how to apply it. I am NOT a make up person, but I love this stuff and use it at least 5 days a week. I think it is PERFECT for a 16 year old and it seems expensive but it really lasts forever and is so easy to use.

I'm fan of Bare Minerals. My complexion is quite pale, so finding a foundation that works for me without making me look like a ghost is difficult -- Bare Minerals matches perfectly... and even warms up my skin tone (I LOVE Warmth... it brightens my skin with out making me look like I have tons of bronzer on). I also have some redness to my skin and the Bare Minerals covers that beautifully with out making me look "made up". It's natural and flattering.
I get many compliments on my skin... little do people know! And bonus: it doesn't dry out my skin or clog my pores! I would definately have some one show her how to use the product. It takes a little bit to get used to using it. There is also an instructional DVD in the getting started packs that was very helpful. Also, especially with a teenager, make sure she has plenty of mineral veil. This sets the makeup and also helps to absorb any oil during the day. A little bit really does go a long way. I go through about two pots of foundation per year ($25 each) and three of the mineral veil ($18 each). I have the same eye shadows and pots of warmth and other blushes/all over face colors that I started with about 3 years ago. I should probaly replace these after christmas for hygene reasons (make-up is supposed to be replaced every so often). There is also a company called everyday minerals. They are less expensive than bare minerals. You can order online.... they have very inexpensive, generous samples that you can buy to test out colors (and they will ship you samples of their foundation for just the cost of shipping). I tried them out and their base is too drying for me. But I LOVE them for eye colors and blushes.

I went into Sephora to ask about a quick & easy makeup that I could put on in 5 minutes or less. The clerk took me to Bare Minerals. And it's true. Fastest makeup I've ever used. Your d doesn't need an appointment for a lesson; just ask a clerk to show her how to use it. The only downside is that it makes a bit of a mess in the bathroom; the powder does tend to spill a bit. Just do it over the sink and wipe up after yourself, and it's fine. |

Thanks so much everyone! You all are making me feel so much better about getting BE for her. She has talked about it for several months now and then mentioned it again last night when we were talking about Christmas. I am glad this will have a "natural" look.

Hi. I love the Bare Minerals line and I wish I had access to this makeup at a teen. Yes, it may seem expensive at first, but when I wore the liquid makeup, I used a drug store brand (Almay) and used 2 $12+ bottles in the amount of time I use one $25 pot of the Bare Minerals. I also had to cake the liquid on to "hide" the pimples it caused. My skin looks better now than it ever has--and I've been diagnosed with Rosacea. Bare Minerals is so healthy.
If you have access to a boutique, you can schedule a "make under", but to make sure your daughter has plenty of time, try to do this during the week and avoid weekends--boutiques are crazy on weekends. I'm sure Sephora can help as well. I've seen some very good sales assistants at my Sephora. Make sure the make up artist shows her just how little foundation to use--it is surprising how little it takes for coverage. If it looks cakey or powdery she has used way too much. The starter kits are good values since you get the application brush(es). You do need brushes designed for mineral makeup. If your daughter has any skin breakout problems, please consider getting her the Blemish Therapy. It is wonderful and clears up a pimple in a day or two! If you are interested in eyeshadows, there are a few kits out for the holidays that have mini (half-sized or X-small) eyeshadows. These allow you to try some colors at a lesser cost. Some people pick up eyeshadow colors and even foundation off eBay, but I get a little wonky about purchasing makeup second hand. It would be OK as long as the product is sealed, but it skeeves me out. QVC is currently offering some special returns through the holidays. If you order a kit and she doesn't like the makeup or it irritates her skin, you can return through the end of January. One nice thing about QVC is many of the products have customer reviews. You can also get reviews off the makeupalley forums. She does need to be color-matched in person. As a teen and especially if she is fair skinned, the radiance colors make nice blushes. One nice thing with Bare Minerals is that they are safe to wear all over the face. So you can take the radiance and use it as a blush, as an eye shadow and even dip a lip balm in the powder and use it as a lip color. It is very multi-tasking. As I said you do need the recommended face brush for the foundation (comes in the kit) but for eye colors, I've found the CVS Essence of Beauty line of brushes good quality and affordable. I hope this has helped in some way. Good luck. |

I love it and I wear it every single day! I have rosacia and it covers the redness like nothing else I have ever tried.
It does seem expensive at first, but I find that I only have to buy it twice a year and that is more than enough for daily use.

I love it, it's the ONLY makeup I will wear as a foundation!
I use other eye shadows but only BM for foundation. Anyway, people say it's $$$ but it's really not.....I buy a small jar of the foundation and it lasts for almost a year.....and yes, I use it daily. I also use the mineral veil daily, and again, lasts for almost a year. Well worth it IMO.
