Accessible Buses at DTD Resorts?
My mom wants to stay at one of the DTD resorts but she will have an ECV. Do the buses take ECVs? She usually stays at WDW resorts but they are too expensive over Christmas.

If transportation is provided for guests, they are required to provide equivilent transportation for guests with mobility needs. So, they do need to provide accessible buses to comply.
Some off site places have limited bus service, only every few hours or a couple of times a day. I don't think the Downtown Disney resorts are in that category, but I'm not sure. At one point, they were using WDW transportation buses. I'm not sure if that is the case anymore, but if it is, you will find that 99% of the buses are wheelchair/ECV accessible, the same as the WDW owned resorts.

As Sue said, they have to provide an alternative for you, under the ADA. However, if you want to make certain, you could always contact the hotel directly. That way you could find out exactly what the provisions are for Disabled guests, and then make a decision on how well that will suit you.
Hope this helps, and have a great trip!

Thanks guys! I was hoping that since the DTD resorts on Hotel Blvd were so popular that someone might know for sure off the top of their head. I think they are using non-Disney buses now. I'll call the Doubletree and see what they say. My mom can have a suite for less than a WDW moderate resort.

Non-Disney buses, but provided by Mears. Unfortunately, it's been several years since I stayed on HPB (okay, fine - eight years, two months, fourteen days) and I only used the bus a few times - but iirc, they're coach-style and so SHOULD be wheelchair accessible.
Otherwise, yeah, they do have to make alternate arrangements for the guest. A couple of years ago when I stayed at a Travelodge that provided all-park transportation, they ended up getting a wheelchair-accessible taxi for me and paying for it. |

I actually don't know if Travelodge paid, or if the transportation company paid. But thinking back, you're probably right about the cost. One way was about $38, and I'm pretty sure I paid less than twice that for the three nights' stay.

Mears has city style buses running the DTD hotel routes and they are ADA compliant. They havs a front door ramp.
