Oasis of the seas too big?

Not really a Dis cruise question or comment, any of you get the impression this ship is TOO big? seems like they are giving the ship coverage of TITANTIC proportions. We cruised the adventure of the seas one year, it felt like to us they just crammed more cabins on and left the gathering spaces the same size. At times we were elbow to elbow along some of the gathering decks.........I read a novel from Clive Cussler, seems like it was a disaster novel about a floating resort.....just seems too big to me, like we are messing with karma

We sailed on the Mariner of the Seas, and look forward to being on the Oasis of the Seas. The newer, bigger ships have the "WOW" factor.

Sure there are more people, but there's also more public space, more activities, and more entertainment venues.

I look at it like this. As consumers we have choices. These choices are in competition for our discretionary spending.

Not only are different cruise lines and ships in competition but so are other vacation possibilities.

In my opinion, the winner is us. We get a broad selection of options and competition helps keep the costs in check.

At this point in our life, with the ages of our kids and what we are into today the Disney Cruise on the original two ships is right for us.

I think it looks very interesting. The only thing it only goes to the Caribbean and I noticed the western included Haiti and Jamaica. I have no desire to go to either location. The eastern look okay.

All I know is I can not wait for my first Disney cruise!!!

Just my $.02 worth......

While I think the new concepts that RCI incorporated into the Oasis are nice, I do not think I want to sail on her. Way too many people, no matter how much public space there is. Given the problems that some other cruise lines have with debarkation, I don't even want to think what trying to get 5500 - 6000 people off that ship would be like.

The port in Haiti (Labadee) is one of two private beaches or islands owned by Royal Caribbean. The other is Coco Cay in the Bahamas.

So far the largest RCI ships I've been on are the Voyager-class (Adventure, Explorer, and Mariner in a few months). Those are plenty big for me, and I haven't had a desire to cruise on a Freedom-class ship. I'd like to see Oasis of the Seas out of curiosity, but I would prefer to sail on ships that are the size of the Magic and Wonder or smaller.

From a management perspective, larger ships with more passengers are cheaper and more efficient to run, and make a heck of a lot more money for the cruise line then smaller ships. So one might imagine that the largest ship in the world, sailing full, would make RCI a lot of dough.

I'm sure the super huge ships are great for people who like crowds and action and have to have something active to do all day long.

Personally for me, I don't care for crowds and at times even the Magic and Wonder seem too crowded to me. I have no desire to do a bigger ship, and that includes the Disney Dream.

From my travel agent days I know there are people who prefer ship-intensive itineraries. They generally travel a great deal and don't need to run ashore, get in line and ride a zip line.

My DH's first experience with cruising was on the Radience of the Seas in Alaska --- loved it so much we were married o the Radience 1 year later.

He like ports.

Having said that - he is bitten by the Oasis bug.

We can sail on DCL anytime for castmember rates and have the same with Royal Caribbean and Celebrity because of friends and famiy rates through close friends working for RCI.

We have already started a list of friends who will be sailing with us later in 2010 on the Oasis of the Seas.

One thing I will say - it's going to be tough to beat the Oasis strictly on the WOW factor.

For example, has anyone noticed the new waterslide on the new disney ships? You will be riding with your BACK facing the ocean. Let's hope this isn't the only WOW DCL has come up with.

I love DCL's current ships but it's going to be tough to complete for the WOW with new new ships.

Too darn big for me. Knowing me, I'd get lost

I picture that being just way too crowded. I love the size of the Wonder/Magic - not too big, not too small....just right!!

On GMA on Friday they walked around deck 15 (the pool deck) and it took 14 minutes. I'm intrigued and may want to give a big ship like this a try when my little ones are older, but that does seem awfully big and I too would probably get hopelessly lost and feel overwhelmed.

one thing a ship that big is limited to where it can go. but the ship itself will be a reason to book it even thou it cant go to anywhere special

I suppose the feeling i'm getting is it is sooo big it comes across as a bit too arrogant to me. I don't suppose it would prevent me from getting on it at the right rate, but I would also agree with a previous poster about getting that many folks off the ship at a port. Without support docks to get alot of folks off at once, if you are at a port for 7 hours and it takes 3 to get everyone off then what is the point?
I just remember all the 1970 disaster flicks where there was the biggest plane, biggest building, newest and latest something or another.......packing that many people on a cruise ship.......one of the best cruises we have been on was a little carnival ship out of New Orleans, the Celebration, patiently awaiting our fist Disney cruise FEB 4th,2010

I think the ship is gorgeous. At one time we considered cancelling our 7 day DCL cruise to sail on the Oasis. For the exact same days, the cost was the same but for an Eastern Cruise on the Oasis vs. a Western Cruise on DCL. And we would have gotten a porthole on the Oasis vs. and inside room on DCL. But, our DD is 5 and we wanted to do DCL again while she still believes in pixie dust and magic.

I think some of you sound a little jealous

"So Lonestar I see your schwartz is as big as mine!" I've cruised with folks that this ship is specially designed for, lots and lots of things to do, some of the smaller ships I have actually seen our best friends go crazy, literally. I grab a pool chair and just sit, and sit, Oh Corona please, sit, and sit, Corona please........wait where are the kids?
