Jedi Training - why would our sign get confiscated?

I've read about some disers folding their signs and putting them in their pockets so they don't get taken at the main gates. Just wondering why they would get confiscated. If you're not supposed to have them in the parks then why do the Jedi Training CM's pick the kids holding them?

I've never read of anyone carrying a sign made of anything but simple paper, and such a sign wouldn't be carried outside of a backpack/purse anyway, BUT if you were carrying something big or made out of harder paper (posterboard or something), I imagine CMs might think you were going to stage a protest,or a...augh one of those things where people gather and either freeze in place or do something strange/silly/weird (flash mobs! that's what they are called), and so on.

But really, why show others, who might be "competition" your good idea? Keep it hidden until the CMs for Jedi are looking.

Did the posters in the postings you have read mention that they did have issues, or did it seem more like they were being cautious and decided to keep them out of sight?

I read a post where the person thought his sign was so good that he jokingly mentioned that he was going to hide it so security wouldn't take it away, and I believe another member misinterpreted the joke and did believe that it could be taken away at the gates .

When we travel with Jedi Academy age kids I always make signs for them. My signs are very bright fluorescent poster board glued onto a hard cardboard backing. I place them in a large padded envelope, have done this about 3 times and have never had any issues, just used them about 2 weeks ago and even received questions and compliments from one of the behind the scenes Jedi Academy staff (a.k.a. the sound guy). My signs so far have always gotten the job done . My Darth Maul sign will usually lure him over to us.

We would keep the sign (it's just 8x10 paper) in our bag, I was hoping we would'nt have to fold it up & stick it in DH's pocket. I've read about it in a few different places (can't remember where), I don't THINK it was a joke. I will put it in a manilla evelope & hope we get to keep it.

I am the perfect person to answer this question - since DS had security tell him (as we were going through security) that he was not allowed to take his sign into DL. The only thing on the sign was a message for Jedi Training. He had to throw his sign away before we could go through the security tables.

If he hadn't been carrying it and we had it in a backpack or the bottom of our stroller storage or folded up in a pocket - it would NOT have even been seen.

It seems like any blatant signage is prohibited and any unobtrusive signs are allowed. Who knows if security thinks they are schedules or menus or itineraries or something and doesn't prohibit them.

Signs DO work at Jedi Training. I've seen them on the inside of capri sun boxes and manila envelopes and regular paper. Also, kids dressed up in Star Wars costumes or Star Wars t-shirts are usually the kids picked after the sign kids are picked. It is easier for the Jedi Master to pick out the obvious kids.

So, moral of the story. Bring a sign, do not be obvious about it, put it in a backpack, the bottom of the stroller or folded up in your pocket. Use it to get your kids chosen at Jedi Training so they can enjoy the experience. It's a fun show to watch and very entertaining when the Jedi master uses the little teeny kid right next to him as his straight man.
