POR- this makes me mad.

We have always stayed at a value resort. This time we need the space for family of 5. What I don't understand is how can you "legally" fit 5 in 314 sq.feet for POR but not in 340 sq. feet at Carribean beach. At POR the child is basically sleeping on the floor. I won't be dishonest about putting 5 in a room for 4 but can someone PLEASE explain to me how this can be. Could I bring an air matress to CB? It seems better accomidations than that sad cot I see pix of.

You can bring an air mattress to CBR, but you'd be breaking the rules. And you couldn't add that person to your reservation, so no KTTW card, no dining plan, no Magical Express ride from the airport. And you could potentially be asked to leave.

It's not just about the square footage of the room - it's about the fire codes, which have a lot more to do with the resort itself -- points of entry/exit, width of the corridors, number of stairs, elevators, etc.

It does seem kinda silly, but unfortunately that seems to be how it is, and like the PP to do that would not only be a fire hazard but they'd have no dining or tickets etc

If you don't like POR don't stay there--
either stay at a Value Suite or go deluxe.

I understand where the poster is coming from. Some of us with families of 5 would love to have another moderate to choose from. I also think my kids would love the pools at CBR ..oh well, nothing we can do about it!

Actually, room occupancy is set by the State and/or local fire marshal's office; Disney is complying with them.

Combined with fire hazard issues...just imagine how crowded it'd be if only every other room had an extra person smuggled into it, the amenities (pool, food court, buses) would be so overtaxed it would be miserable experience if resort near full-occupancy.

I have never quite understood this myself. We have stayed at both and you can definitely tell the difference in the extra space in the CBR room. 26 square feet might not sound like much, but any extra space when your entire family is crammed into one room for an entire week helps! I guess it all has to do with fire codes and so on like others have said.

If it's any consolation to you, CBR has always been our favorite moderate -- for all 4 of us. But we recently stayed at POR (this month) and we all loved it! While it didn't quite top CBR for me, it did for DS10! He says it is his new favorite. He absolutely loved Piano Bob!

Good luck to you. I hope you enjoy POR or wherever you decide to stay! I do wish there were more options for those of you with a family of 5. I know it's easy for some to say -- just book a deluxe. But that's just not in everybody's budget.

As the previous poster said, it isn't just about room size; it is also the number of exits, the width of the exits, etc, when the buildings were designed. POR has larger aisleways leading out of the rooms, as well as more exits off the upper floors than CBR.

This was my arguement with someone else once!!!! An not even if every other room did it. What about every 5th room? That's still 20% of the resort! That's quite a jump in numbers.
