Major differences between August & June?

We (my DW, DD6, DS2, and me) took our first trip to WDW this past summer and had a great time. Because we are both teachers, we are limited on when we can go. We are currently planning a second trip for next summer and are thinking of changing our plans slightly.

Last summer, we went July 28 - August 6 and we were hot and wet. Although we had a great time, we wondered if going earlier in the summer would be much different. This summer, we are going to go as soon as DW's school year is over so we will be getting there about June 13.

Will this month or so make much of a difference? Heat? Rain? Crowds?

Thanks!

Hi! Yes, it will be much more pleasant & cooler. We have gone to WDW in early June, July, and Aug. What we also like to do to beat the summer heat is to arrive at the parks early in the morning (by 9am) and then leave the parks around lunchtime. We relax in our cool motel/hotel room until 5 - 6pm. When we return to the parks around 6pm, we feel great walking around because it is no longer super hot and humid.

Besides that, it is very early in huricane season - so huricanes are less likely to happen.

From 04-08 we have went the 3rd week of June. This year, we went the 2nd week of Aug. The heat was majorly different! I thought we were going to melt. June is hot, don't get me wrong. Its just a different level of heat and humidity in Aug. The crowds seemed alot larger also. And people were just plan out grumpy. We will never go in Aug again.... EVER!

Hi, again. I also notice you have 2 little children. Our own strategy for summer WDW is to take an afternoon break - it is SO refreshing. Try it for one day, and you will notice the big difference! Your little ones will benefit a great deal from this rest/nap. When you arrive early in the morning (by 9am) at the parks, you will be amazed how many rides you can do by lunchtime. Crowd is MUCH less in the morning. If you are staying onsite, eating lunch at your resort will also be much more pleasant - less crowded. Pick up FastPass for your family BEFORE you leave the parks for the afternoon break, so when you return in the evening you can play right away! (FastPass is good as long as you come back anytime during or after the assigned time - the same day.) Also, when you return in the evening, try to get another set of FastPass before you use the set that you already have.

Also, at MK, if you do not want to leave for an afternoon break. Tom Sawyer's Island is a good place to relax. Your little ones will enjoy playing here. This place is like a giant shaded playground with caves & a wooden fort. The island is somehow a bit cooler, too!

About the crowd level, I think it is a bit lighter early June. But, this does not dictate "which" park you should go for a particular day. We instead pay attention to the Disney EMH schedule. If you are staying onsite, utilize EMH for those parks. If you are staying offsite, avoid those parks having EMH.

Rain: It does rain early June - once/twice a week - it depends. We always pack ponchos in our backpack everyday we are at WDW. We like using the disposable ones, < $1 each, from Wal-mart. They are super light and very compact. They can be reused too if you fold and stuff them in a Ziploc (but they will be twice as big!). Also, pack a pair of round headed scissors. You will need them to shorten the poncho length for your little children. I hope this helps. We love teachers!! Have fun next summer!!!!!

Just started thinking of a trip next summer and thought June would be better than August. Good to hear that it sounds as though June is not quite as hot and miserable as Aug.

Never been to the World in June, but I think they had some record highs throughout Florida this past June. We were in Disney in August 2008 and there were some very low temps following the rains from storm Fay. The weather is always a gamble.

I haven't been in June in a long long time, but we did go 1st week of Aug 2009. It was hot. It rained one day...our PM EMH at AK, which I wasn't thrilled about, but what can you do. I can tell you though, we went Thanksgiving week 2008, and the crowds then were horrible! We actually managed to survive the Aug heat and are going the sametime in 2010. To us, the heat was SO much more manageable than the really really bad crowds.

I did the last week of August in 2007 and the 2nd week of June in 2009. They were both unbelievably hot (but August was slightly more humid) and the crowds were higher in June, but not unbearably so. There was a marked increase in crowds starting June 15th compared to June 8th.

Honestly, I would expect similar weather and crowds in mid June as to what you had that July/August trip.

We went this past summer in both June and the last week of August. June was super hot but not humid. The temps got into the 100's a few days. We spent afternoons at the pool until on our third day when my son came down with a fever! He had an ear infection..doc said he may have caught a bacteria in the pool.

We took him back again in August and the temps were again high 90's but very humid. There was one night where we swam until midnight and it was still hot and humid. I put ear plugs in my son's ear for our second trip and no ear issues!

Crowd levels were about the same for both trips. We did July last summer and didn't care for the Brazil tour groups everywhere you looked. The actually took over the shallow end of the wave pool at TL to play games...made a huge circle.

We are booked again for mid August next year...free dining!
Oh and I forgot to add that we had very little rain in June but it rained every.single.day in August and mostly in the late evening. Some nights it was quick and other nights it dragged on.

In general, June has fewer people, less heat if you're lucky, less humidity and less rain.

Better than August.

Three major diffeences.

1. August has two more letters than June.

2. It is earlier in hurricane season and less likely to have a major storm.

3. Most schools in the Northeast and North Central tend to break for summer at the end of June so there is a good chance the crowds will not be quite as bad.

There won't be that much of a difference between June and August.June probably won't get as hot,but it'll still be hot and plenty humid enough. Both months get a lot of rain with June probably getting a bit more. You'll get less chance for a hurricane in June.
