Probably a dumb question...

I know very little about DVC, but am interested in it. Can you stay at ANY Disney hotel, or do you have to stick with DVC properties? We love the Poly, and would want to stay there as often as possible. I figured you guys would have the answer to this!!

you can stay at other wdw hotels such as the poly but you'd be paying more than the cash rate to do so. it's nice to have the option to trade out to other wdw hotels on occasion but it's a miserable deal. (for example, you can stay at a DVC resort like the bay lake tower a short walk from the MK starting at 12 to 15 pts per night...or you can stay at the poly for 41 to 50 pts per night plus a $95 fee to make or change the reservation.) also, pts to stay at non-DVC options like the poly are NOT fixed and can (and do) increase over time.

buy DVC to stay at DVC resorts. buying DVC to trade out is just never a good deal.

edited to add: maybe check back should the poly add some villas in the future...

Wow -thanks! I still think I'd be happy if we did the BLT, but I think we'd be even happier if the Poly went DVC in the future! Thanks again.

Rumors are abound about a Poly DVC. I wouldn't count on it in the near future, but I would expect to see one within 5-10 years.

In the meantime, BLT is very nice

Have you ever stayed in a 1 bedroom villa? The DVC 1 bedrooms are awefully nice. I could not go back to a regular hotel room at any WDW resort now that I am used to staying in 1 bedroom or larger rooms. JHMO, YMMV.

Have you ever stayed at a DVC resort? We have been DVC members since 04 and since the trip when we joined have never stayed in a regular room on property since. After experiencing the 1 and 2 BR villas, the 3 BR Tree House Villas and the Grand Villas it is not even a consideration. The DVC properties are just marvelous IMHO.

As previously mentioned, using points for stays at WDW hotels is not a good value.

However, to answer the OP's original question, you can use points to stay at the moderates, and the deluxes that do not have a DVC component (GF, Poly, YC).

You cannot use points for stays at the values, or the hotels that do have a DVC component (BC, AK, BWI, Contemporary, WL).

Not a dumb question. Others have answered it well. Allow yourself to see the other places though. My best is you might be VERY surprised! I was.

We just bought DVC a week and a few days ago. (Just not my binder in the mail 2 minutes ago ) We saw the models when we were there. Holy BUCKETS are those villas NICE!!!! Seriously! We loved our stay at the POly this time and have always loved teh theming and grounds but holy moley, the villa 1 and 2 BRs are supurb! Space galore and actually in my estimation, less dollar per dollar. And OMG, the SPACE! And oh oh oh, NOT having to eat out every stinkin meal! i LOVE that. Not that I'm planning on cooking much if at all. But whipping up some toast and ceral in my room and heading out is SO much less $ and stress for me that making sure we're on time to ADRs in teh morning and end up not eating much anyway. I'm SO in love w/ the diea and we haven't stayed yet.
The Poly and the AKL grounds are very similar to me (in theme/feel) which is why we've stayed at the Poly more than any 1 place despite having CM issues all but this last time and why we felt the AKL felt like a real "home" resort the minute we stepped in.

I have to add that IMO, the BLT model showed MUCH betetr than it's pix! I actually felt myself swaying in that drection. DH yanked me back to the AKV side. I hope to try a BLT MK view one day. Maybe.

STILL want to buy resale at SRR. Gotta cool my jets!
