Question Candy Maker? Japan?

I was just on the thread (an old one which is closed now so I can't ask there) for food pictures and a woman posted that they lined up early for a show and all of her kids got picked, showing them with animal shaped candy on a stick.

Where is this and what is it? And can you buy these creations or do you only get them if your child gets picked? Is the show long and is it run more then once a day?

Thanks for any info!

The candy lady has a little stand outside the big shop in Japan. Her creations are free, but only those lucky people who are chosen by her get one. Yes, she "performs" several times a day.

Miyuki is in Japan. I am not sure the times, but they will be posted in the times guide. We showed up about 15 minutes early to get in the very front.

Each family picked gets to choose one candy design and it is theirs to keep. I am not sure if every family gets one, though.

My DD got chosen and she picked a kitty. It was so cute!

Hope this helps!!

just a side note, miyuki is one of like 10-20 people left in the world that still do sugar candy art.

that art form is an olllld school japanese tradition. but she's really cool and super sweet.

If you plan to be there *early* and stand in front, you are very likely to get picked, as the crowd grows after she starts performing. Wear your smiles!!

Good luck!!

My husband and I went to see her several times last January. She only does about 5 or 6 animals each performance. And she is amazing. In less that 60 seconds she takes a "blob" of a corn syrup like product and turns it into an animal. It cools while she makes the next one and then she paints it.

Just a reminder that acting like Ron Horshack from Welcome Back Kotter is NOT the way to get selected ("Oooh, Oooh, Oooh, Pick Me, Pick Me"). Stand politely and quietly, smile and enjoy.

Here's the blue monkey she made for us.

True! Remember that she only makes 5-6 each show. Not every child will get one and sometimes she will pick an adult, instead of a child. The first time my grandaughter and I saw her, we were front and center, but my 8 y/o GD did not get picked. She was standing there fascinated and was nice and quiet, but still didn't get picked. She really wanted one though, so after the show we wandered around Japan for awhile, got a kaki gori, then went back to Miyuki's stand and sat on the ground right in front of it, waiting for the next show. You could see Miyuki remembered us being in the exact same spot for her previous show and picked my GD first thing. It took two shows, but my GD got a really neat yellow and black tiger.

She normally goes by the people that were there first. I don't know where she is before the show that she sees this but she's always picked the people who waited the longest.

She only does one per family now though. So if you have more than one kid you will have to get them to agree on an animal to ask for.

No, you can't buy the candy. You can only get one if you are selected.

I've stood at the stand about 20-30 minutes early and have gotten picked both times I watched the show and got a monkey and a penguin. The penguin is holding a heart on top of an iceberg. It's my favorite between the two.

Her stand is in front of the big Japan store. I can't remember what it's called. The times of her show can be found with all the other program times.
