Grapefruit cake?
Is there a place I can get grapefruit cake that I've heard so much about w/o eating at Brown Derby?

IIRC, it's sold at the Starring Rolls next door.

I hope you like it. I tried it this past September and it was so bitter after two bites, I asked for the strawberry cheese cake.

I didn't like it either. I ate most of it, but wouldn't order it again. I'm happy sticking with my chocolate choices!

My DH, who LOVES his desserts, hated the grapefruit cake; but a lot of people love it.

It is found at the resturaunt next door called Starring Rolls. The cake is very good. It is sweet but the frosting tastes more like cream cheese than sickeningly sweet frosting with a sort of tart grapefruit flavor. We found it to be quite refreshing. I think everyone has different taste buds but we enjoyed it.

I don't like grapefruit at all but I'd be willing to try it. Knowing that there is strawberry cheesecake as a backup would give me the courage to take a chance.

Thanks! I'm not sure if I'd like it, but I am willing to try it. I will check out Starring Rolls then.

I heard that it's not actually on the menu on Starring Rolls, but if you ask, they do sell it.

We have seen it at Starring Rolls as well. We tried it twice - first time I was rather put off by it, but DW was courageous enough to order it a second time and I am glad she did as I seemed to enjoy it more after knowing what to expect. I would still argue that if it isn't chocolate it isn't dessert, but this was a nice alternative meal ender.

The grapefruit cake used to be absolutely delicious. It was made daily in-house and was yummy. If you asked, they'd give you the recipe printed on a derby-shaped cutout.
It's now made by a third party contractor It's dry, rather flavorless and we don't even bother with it anymore. Actually, we don't even bother going to Brown Derby anymore since the cake was one of the main things that would lure us there. |

I've tried twice on two different trips and I won't eat it again. Not a fan.
