What do you think of the Navigator's Verandah?

We're wondering about booking one of these. It is a balcony, but I have a feeling that sitting in the room, or even sitting in a chair on the balcony, there is no view. Would it be close to one of the large porthole window rooms, with the same view with fresh air added?

I just want to know if we'll be disappointed that we can't sit on the balcony and enjoy the view!

I had the Navagators Verandah on a previous cruise and was very pleased. The "hole" is quite large and you can see well. If you stand right in the middle of the opening the view is just as good as if you were in a regular balcony IMOP. Sitting there is a solid wall up to the hand rail area, so sitting you might have to sit up straight to see the water more easily, but not a problem. The fresh air is nice. It's particularly great if you have very young kids--made me a little less nervous about them being out there (even with me right beside them). Most of the Nav rooms are on the 5th and 6th and maybe 7th decks I think mostly towards the rear of the ship. The porthole "window" rooms (deluxe ocean view) are on deck 2.

BTW, we got a porthole window this last time. on deck 2-- Loved the "view" but missed sitting out there and enjoying the view and fresh air.

We love the Nav - we'll be in it again in 2 weeks - for the 3rd time. It's kind of the ideal situation if you want both a deck and some privacy.

No, you won't see the same things sitting down that you would sitting on an open deck... but you are also a little sheltered from bad weather. Standing and looking out the porthole opening in the deck is pretty much one of the best views on the ship.

We love the cabin locations (aft) and with a nearly-7 y.o. daughter, being on 5-aft makes it a quick, quiet jaunt to the kids clubs. and a nicely untrafficed hallway.

Then again, there really is no such thing as a bad cabin in DCL!

We will also be in a Navigators Verandah in 2 weeks for our 3rd time. We enjoy the open air and the view...One day we will splurge for an open verandah but we like the Nav also...

Thanks - that makes me feel better. I was thinking the fresh air and sounds of the sea would make a difference.

Well...

I chose a Navagators Veranda for this reason...while I wanted to be able to step outside for some fresh air, I have a real fear of heights. I thought the restricted opening vs. a railing would give me the added security I need to enjoy my cabin. It just seemed like the right combination for us...

We set sail on 5/30 and are looking forward to our first cruise ever...that's if you don't count my days in the US Coast Guard some 25 years ago.

don't forget, too, that it's like having another "room" to hang out in.
