Looking for reviews of Med Cruises

Hi! Has anybody been on a Med cruise? My husband and I are trying to determine if we want an ABD Vacation to Italy or a Med cruise. We're especially wondering about the quality of food, ports and shore excursions (how much time did you end of spending in locations, did you feel like you really got to see/experience Europe or was it more about the ship/shows,etc?)

Any advice would be much appreciated!

Did it in 2007, booked for 2011 again the Med 10/11 trips are port intensive, and less of a relaxing cruise vacation but more of an education, so best for adults and school age kids, teenagers etc. it is very hot in Europe in the summer, Rome was 41c in July when we went.

Private tours in places such as Rome and Naples are well worth it to get maximum advantage of your time ashore.

There were extra shows on the ship, but i bet there will be an announcement on this and it will be different in 2010 from 2011.

Some of the ports have changed, with new ones added and a number dropped, so its hard to compare.

Food was great on and off ship, we went local and had local foods, inc true Italian pizza, Time in port is good, but you will never do Rome in a day, there are so many choices so plan what you want to do, ie Avoid Capri, but do Amalfi Drive and Sorrento and Pompeii.

Some of the ports require long travel time, La Spezia for Florence and Pisa, is a long trip and a tender port, Liverno is far closer, but DCL doesnt go there.
