Anyone just arrive without a hotel booked?

We are arriving the day before our cruise. We are renting a car and will turn it into port the next day when we go to board the Wonder.

We can't decide what we want to do the day before the cruise, and part of the issue is weather. We arrive at MCO at 11:00 am, so we could actually have enough time to go enjoy one of the parks that afternoon and evening, BUT if it is cold and rainy (this is the first week of March), we would probably rather just go to PC and stay there.

We don't care if the hotel is fancy, just clean. Holiday Inn Express and things like that are OK with us the night before our cruise (after the cruise we are staying at the Contemporary by MK, so that is booked).

Has anyone done this?

When are your traveling? If it is when a shuttle goes up - no way will you get a hotel near PC. Other times may be difficult to get hotel near parks.

Still may be risky depending on cruise schedules and such. Heck, I was playing around with dates for next November trying to get prices together and I couldnt get a room rate at the radisson, it wouldnt come up online. So I called and guess what, they are completely sold out that entire weekend. No rooms left. And this is a year away, So you may want to have a back up plan just in case.

How about booking a room at PC that you can cancel day of arrival, that way when you arrive you can make that decision and then cancel if necessary.

I'd go with the above idea with a different twist--book a room in the WDW/MCO area and another in the port area, but be sure that both can be canceled up to 4 pm or 6 pm on day of arrival. Then when you get to MCO, you can call and cancel whichever you don't want.

I wouldn't show up without a reservation; you'll pay rack rate as a walk in, and you might have trouble finding a spot.

Can you cancel the WDW that day before 4:00? I guess I was thinking we would need to cancel at least 24 hours in advance.

Not WDW, but there are other hotels in the Lake Buena Vista area that you can.

If you wanted a WDW hotel and could get a room, you could cancel the LBV and PC rooms!

I know for sure any brand belonging to Marriott allows cancelations up to 6 pm on the day of check in with no penalty. That includes Courtyard, Springhill Suites, Fairfield Inn. Prices for every budget.

Fairfield Inn has free cont breakfast in their lobby with make your own waffles.
