Paying for Upgrade at Check In?

We are heading to the Poly in Feb. with a garden view room. We were talking over possibly upgrading. Have you ever tried to upgrade (paying of course) at the time of check in? We know that we will be taking a chance that there may not be a room available. We are just happy to have a chnce to stay at the Poly for the first time. I was just curious if the price works out to be about as much as if I had booked it up front, or better since the room isn't booked anyway. Any help would be appreciated.

If you ask to upgrade they will charge you rack rate price on the room. They usually upgrade people for free if you get lucky however if you ask likely you will pay. You never know though you may get a super nice CM who'll upgrade ya for nada but dont count on it.
Have a great trip!

Have you thought of trying to upgrade your reservation before you leave or is there a reason why you can only do it when you check-in?

I checked and it is another 700.00 for theme park view or 1400.00 for concierge theme park view. I was just wondering if they had the ability to offer you the same room at check in, if it was not booked, for say 50.00 more per day than the 100.00. That way they would get something for upgrading, instead of doing it for free. We have been very fortunate in the past to get upgrades free of charge at WL and AKL but never ask for or expect anything for it, just a nice surprise. It was just a thought, we would survive without the special view, just thought maybe at a lower price we may be tempted. Thanks for your help.

We were just there last week and did ask if any upgrades were available to pay for (never ask for free) and the CM made a call and was told "no". I'm sure w/o a doubt there were higher value rooms available but they weren't giving any up for even paid upgrades on that day (Nov. 13th). Book what you want to have and you can always ask. Just be prepared to be happy w/ what you get. We, were SO HAPPY we didn't get an upgrade though. Our view was SUPURB for a GV. AWESOME!!!!! I'll post pix soon. I have GREAT pix of the castle at night. We didn't request any particular longhouse nor floor. We couldn't have been more happy w/ how the cards fell.

Thanks for that information. I was wondering what would happen if we waited. We will just wait and see when we get there, I am sure we will be happy with whatever room we get! Thanks!
