Help with banking/borrowing

I'm trying to plan two vacations in 2010. One is in June at HHI (with no luck so far) and I'm using some banked points and then some 2010 points. That vacation won't have any chance of being cancelled. However, I'm also planning a trip to BLT in October and will have to borrow points from 2011. This trip does have a chance of being cancelled depending on DHs work schedule. I was told that those points I borrow from 2011 could not be banked if I did have to cancel so I could potentially lose 50 pts.

Is there some kind of way to allocate the points so that I don't lose any if I cancel and can't reschedule a trip?

Borrowed points returned to your account cannot be banked and will expire at the end of Use Year into which they were borrowed. Your only option will be to use them for a reservation of some sort. Your choices will depend a little on when you would cancel the October reservation. If cancelled prior to the trip to HH, the borrowed points could likely be reallocated into that reservation (if you are getting that reservation using non-HH points within 7 months). If you would cancel after the HH dates it sounds like you have no other reservations scheduled where the borrowed points could be used - so those points must be used for another reservation. Depending on your Use Year they could be used for a non-DVC option unless the cancellation occurs in the last 4 months of your Use Year.

Good luck!

so that means I could just borrow 2011 pts for HH knowing that I won't cancel and then use all of 2010 for Oct, correct?

That would totally work.

That would be the safest plan rather than use borrowed points for a trip that might end up being cancelled. You might need to explain this to MS otherwise they will just use the 2010 points for HH.

You could also just make the October reservation first using the 2010 points and borrow to make the HH reservation. If you later need to cancel October be sure to bank those points - as ling as you cancel prior to the last 4 months of your Use Year.
