Am I dreaming or could this be available at 7 months?

DH and I are almost 100% sure that we will be visiting his cousin in Tampa during our road trip to Florida in July. We would love to stay at HHI the night before we get to Tampa. We have it all planned out...we would drive all the way down to the southern part of North Carolina (from NYC...which is what we did last time on the first day of our trip), then it is only around 3 and a half hours to get to HHI so we would have the whole day there to enjoy. Then the following morning we would leave at around 10 or 11AM and head to Tampa.

The only way DH and I are considering staying at HHI is if we can get a studio when the 7-month window opens up (which is about a week into December so we have to decide for sure within the next 2 weeks). Am I dreaming that this could possibly be available for a weeknight in July, just 2 or 3 days after July 4th? I suppose it's worth a shot. I could always go on a waitlist and see what happens. Right now we have a hotel booked in Savannah, GA just in case HHI doesn't work out. And I have until the afternoon of the check-in date to cancel that without a penalty, so being on a waitlist for HHI won't be a problem.

Am I dreaming?

Anything is possible and you won't know until you try! Months ago I asked the same question about getting a 2br & a 1br at the BC Villas next May at the 7 mo. window and was told by most that I shouldn't get my hopes up because the BC was the most in demand DVC resort. Well, I called exactly at the 7 mo. window and had no problem getting both, in fact I added 1 night recently with no problem. So, go for it! I'm sending your way.

I would also suggest not getting discouraged with the availability at 7 months. I would also consider waitlisting too. My Last HHI trip I had a no availability in the middle of the week. But thru the magic of waitlists it all worked out. Besides you have your fallback plan of a hotel room.

Give it a try!

HHI is a dream

Dream on! We love HHI. Been there 3 times. Very relaxing, non-commercial place. The Beach house is great and don't miss the s'mores around the fireplace!

Good luck,
Lori

Most of the rooms at HHI are 2 bedrooms, there are very few lockoffs for separate studios & 1 bedrooms. If you are looking for a Friday or Saturday night you have a better chance but weekdays in the summer book up early.

You might want to think about booking on cash through MS and then seeing what happens when 7 month window opens - hopefully you'll get what your hoping for on that call but I'd give the waitlist a try if not.

Good luck and lots of

I can tell you from living in Savannah while growing up and having family that lived in Tampa/St. Pete and visitng them often that it will take you a good 8 hours or so to hit Tampa from Savannah.

Out typical route from Savannah to Tampa was:
I-95 South to 295 around Jax
295 to 1-10
I-10 to Baldwin (Hwy 301)
301 for a bit (an hour or so) then cut over to I-75
Then I-75 to I-275 into Tampa.

When the hubster and I go to Disney, it's a good 6 hours from Savannah to Orlando. We always drive from where we live (Augusta) to Savannah and spend the night with my mom and leave from Savannah around 5 a.m. It also another 2 hours form Orlando to Tampa.

either way you go it's still a looooong trip down there.

Also it's about an hour from Savannah to HHI.

Good luck to you!! You never know until you try! I will say though that if your stay is a Fri. or Sat. night you will have better luck at getting it 7 months out. As you say you can be on the waitlist till the last possible moment since your other reservations can be easily cancelled - sounds like a good plan! Hope you get HHI though, we love it there!

July is probably the busiest time of year, but our last stay there (2007) was in July for a week (1 bdrm). So, I think you can have reasonable hope for success. Especially if you are looking at Fri- Sat.

Good Luck

8 hours from Savannah to Tampa??? Going the "long way" it should only be 7 hours. MapQuest says 5.5 hours. I think it will be longer than that allowing for traffic, but I would be really surprised if it's even as much as 7 hours with heavy traffic.

I agree with you on this; shouldn't be 8 hours. It's approx 340 to WDW and 380 to Tampa. Haven't done HHI to Tampa but have done drive to/from WDW many times and that's taken us just about 5 hrs. We've gone from West Palm Beach to HHI leaving around 6:30 am and that's about 460 miles took us 6 1/2 hours to get on island.

Also agree it shouldn't be 8 hours to Tampa from Savannah. I drove from Orlando to HHI resort and it only took 5 hours. Since Savannah is a little more south and Tampa a little more west than Orlando, I can't imagine it taking more than 6 hours.
