umbrellas on the plane???

The last time we were in WDW there was a tropical rain storm, that lasted most of the week. We had rain coats, and a little umbrella that helped. I would like to take our large umbrella (golf size) But it won't fit in our luggage, can I take it on the airplane? Or want should I do with it? Or should I buy more little ones so everyone has one?
Thanks!

In England, they confiscated our umbrellas at security. And if there is anywhere you need an umbrella, it's England.

So no, I don't think you can bring it on the plane.

My point of view.............

Don't know about the plane but in the parks, a big umbrella can be a hazard to others. Never had the need, ponchos have served us well and with the afternoon shower in Florida, it's over before you know, alot easier to pop into an attraction for the duration then carry an umbrella all day or don a poncho. Just my 2 cents.

I agree -- showers pop up so often and quickly in Florida - I wouldn't want to be carrying a golf umbrella around until you needed it. Ponchos work so much better to carry around. (And you don't really see too many umbrellas in the park either - probably for the reasons pepe suggested -- too easy to be banging into people with an open umbrella).

I can't imagine walking thru crowds with a golf umbrella. How would you pass people on sidewalks? and I think it would be very dangerous to children or shorter people with a huge umbrella. It is also quite rude to take up a whole sidewalk if you plan on walking in a group under one big umbrella.

Also what would you do with an umbrella that big on rides?

I have a soft-sided leather attache I carry on when I fly, and I keep a personal folding umbrella in one of the side pockets. Nobody's stopped me yet from carrying it on a plane in the U.S., and that includes trips spanning the country coast-to-coast.

It has kept me dry in Chicago more than once when I was forced to exit United Express CRJs far out on the ramp and walk -- in pouring rain -- to the terminal.

Disney discourages the use of umbrellas due to the likelihood of lightning striking the guest carrying the 'brella, as well as the wind blowing them into other guests causing the possibility of eye or other injuries.
