Are any renovated rooms available yet at Disneyland Hotel?

I know the renovations are ongoing (in the Dreams tower?) -- has anyone been able to stay in one yet? Would we have any chance at all of staying in one in mid December?

Also, the Disneyland Hotel online booking process doesn't let you specify any requests, e.g. 2 queen beds or a particular tower. Is it worth it to call the hotel and put in my requests now, or should I wait until check in, or call the morning of our stay? Or other advice? At one time the SOP at Disney World was to fax the room controller about 4 or 5 days before a stay.

I booked the Downtown Disney/Pool view, lower floor option. Any special advice on room requests in this category?

I can't answer your question about the renovated rooms, when is your trip? Do you have time to switch to another hotel? We just returned and I was really disappointed in this hotel, especially after all the rave reviews on this site. I don't think we would stay here again. The rooms are in definate need of updating and it is quite a long walk to DCA and DL front gates. I think it would be well worth the money to switch to the GC, especially if you had already upgraded to a DTD view at DLH. Just my two cents...

We will be there next week, so I called to ask if any were done, and the CM said not yet. Keep checking back though!

actually I think there are many opinions on the DLH on this board, those of us with a less positive opinion may not chime in depending on how a question is phrased.....so not to rain on other's parades.

We stayed at the DLH for 6 nights in Sept. We were in the Dreams Tower (not in a renovated room). We had booked the lower resort/DTD view and I requested the pool view. We ended up on the 6th floor overlooking the pool. I was happy with the view and the room was very quiet. I have heard that you can hear the music from the bands, etc. on the DTD side and with young kids that go to bed early, I did not want to chance staying on the DTD side. We had a daybed room and it was fairly good size. The carpet in our room was worn, but other than that, the room was in pretty good shape. In my opinion, the walk to Disneyland was not that bad. Maybe 10 minutes and this was with pushing one stroller. You cannot fax in room requests like you can at WDW. But, you can call the hotel directly and specify if you want a certain tower or a daybed, etc. We had really good service and I would stay there again. Have a great trip!

we stayed at DLH oct. 24th-25th
It didnt look like any of the renovated rooms were open yet but that was almost a month ago so they might be done by now.

We are one of the positive reviews of the DLH. We absolutely loved it. We were in the wonder tower. The room did not look worn at all. The rooms are huge and very clean. We had a view of the hotel grounds which were very nie. I loved the Cove pools. It was empty enough for me to swim laps whihc was great.
I really think the only thing missing form that hotel is some type of food court of sorts

Thanks everyone! It's good to know some people have had good rooms at Disneyland Hotel (e.g. decent condition). That is a concern of mine, as I've read some complaints of rooms in very poor condition. AZBeth, our trip starts Dec. 9th. I'd love to upgrade to GCH, but we're so far over budget now for a variety of reasons, I don't see it happening. I feel very lucky to be booking at Disneyland Hotel.

Here's what I'm thinking of requesting, in priority order, realizing of course that requests might not be honored and I probably can't get all of this anyway:

* Newly renovated room, if available, any location.
* Dreams tower or the one with the main lobby (Wonder?). I recently tore the meniscus in my left knee, so reducing the distance between the hotel and the parks (or monorail if need be) might be a big deal. I may end up with an ECV for this trip, which will make the distance less of an issue, but even still, I'll want to try to walk at least part of the time. We'll see how that goes....
* For quiet reasons, a room that's not next to the ice machine or elevators, and maybe not a connecting room as those seem to have more noise from the adjoining room.

If anyone has additional thoughts about room location, I'm all ears.

I was fortunate enough to stay at the Disney Hotel this past Sept. and I absolutely positively loved my room! I wish that I could live there, seriously.
Be it the current theming or the renovated variation, I am sure that you will totally love your hotel room.

you can see why I save my more critical reviews for tripadvisor! Opinions are a moving target......based on expectations....and way to personal to extrapolate to anyone else!I am happy so many people like it.

I wanted to chime in here. My first trip EVER to Disney was when my Father-in-law took him, my DH, me, DD (Who was turning 2 during our trip), and DS. We stayed at the DLH I am always the planner/booker of trips. I had NO idea of anything except Disneys website, and then I found this board whew lol. We stayed in a suite, and I really liked it only draw back was it was the wonder tower which was still bonita back then. That I try to AVOID like the plague. The walk with 2 small kids who are tired, and trying to carry them was rough. If your knee is bad I woudn't do wonder tower explain to them the situation see if they in anyway can help you get a closer tower. Since my first stay at DLH we could have done GCH it was new and just opened the rates were high, but my Fath in law said lets do the traditional DLH. I honestly have to say I have been in a couple weeks 4 times this year, and I stay ONLY at DLH it truly has this feel. Yes it needs a refresh, but so does everything at some point, but it was NOT all nasty and worn down. I am telling you as a just turning 31 y/o when I land in LAX I get slammed with the excitement of I can't get there fast enough. When you pull up to the main entrance oh my gosh it screams magic. Look up at the lights as you walk into the main lobby outside they are covered in gold stars with stars hanging down, walk into the lobby at the right time during main check in our early afternoon, and goofy maybe there waiting on you. The gift shops are nice the ladies are great. Neverland pool is too cute, and heated. Ok now I know I should have tried the pool many visits ago, but I am such a park commando I never take a pool day lol. If you can get a view of the pool at night/dawn it's so gorgeous hooks ship in the pool is lit by light blue xmas lights. I LOVE opening my drapes wide open looking at the pool at night before bed, then waking at 5am I go to the balcony doors I quietly open them check how cool it is outside, and just take in the magical view. The rooms are cute you never leave the magic the rooms have mickeys hand holding light fixtures, the castle is on the head board etched on, the entertainment center when the doors are closed has a map of the park etched on it, and if you leave your drapes open all day while you're in the park the sunlight charges the tinkerbelle, and her pixie dust that is at the top boarder, so when it's bed time, and lights get turned off it glows. There is magic, and I have only had a couple bad experiences 1 with a waiter who was beyound rude at Goofy's happend only 1 but it was during the cake time on my DD birthday in front of family who joined us it was embarassing, and the most recent time was this OCT I had my make up on the bathroom counter all laid out as to what I use at night, and my day make up, and I came back only to find everything was WAY out of order, and things on my suitcases had been messed with, also a dress I wore to the trick or treat party a very formal marilyn monroe dress had been moved not the way I had it put, and Mousekeeping threw my dress bad away which was sitting on my suitcase. It made me feel a bit violated, but they really offered no help about it. It is a great hotel where the min you get there they have disney songs piped in all through the grounds, and towers. I LOVE it there. I may try HARD to drag myself away for just 1 night t the Grand to try it this trip, but it's hard for me to leave DLH. I wake up feeling happy, and like my childhood is back, and go to sleep never losing it. If you want more of a grand floridian feel then GCH would be better choice. I have stayed at AKL, and the Grand cali has the same type feel, but the lobby is gorgeous.
