Bumped from Beach Club b/c overbooked! What can I do?
My family is leaving Tuesday to head down to Disney to celebrate Thanksgiving and my dd7's birthday (Nov 27). We are booked in 1bdrm at the Beach Club Villas and received a phone call today informing us that the Beach Club Villas is overbooked and that we are being moved to a Boardwalk Villas 1bdrm. Period. That's it. No upgrade, no discount, no Disney magic. The CM was really rude, actually. The thing is...we asked my dd where she wanted to stay for her birthday. She chose the Beach Club. We have planned a lot of our stay around the resort: meals, activities, b-day party with family. She is going to be super disappointed - she's got some sensory/emotional issues, so change isn't very easy for her. I know the Boardwalk villas are really nice, but if I wanted to stay there, I would have booked it, kwim?Has anyone else ever been relocated after a resort is oversold and NOT been given any other perks to make up for it? I think the thing that really gets me is how RUDE the CM was. She pretty much told me to take what I was given, there's nothing else that can be done. I asked about a discount/upgrade and she told me that they were not offering anything but a room at the Boardwalk. Is there anything I can do? Any advice? Has this happened to any of you> Thanks for you help! |

This is aweful!
I suggest, if your ressies are cash and not DVC points, you call the BC directly and talk to the manager and explain your situation. And how did they over book, they took your ressie. Hope all works out for you. |

i would definately call and ask to speak to a manager. do the "yes"option for answering the survey at the end and you are connected to a manager's voicemail. while no-one would be happy, as you said you would have booked boardwalk if you wanted it, possibly explaining the b-day and your daughter's extra needs, maybe they can find a way (someone else moves). i usually would be of the "oh, that's too bad, but at least it's comparable", but under those circumstances i would push (nicely) a little harder with the higher-ups! pixie dust and good luck!!!!!

I would give my left arm to stay at the Boardwalk!!!
You'll have a great trip anyway, and don't forget, you CAN use the Yacht/Beach pools, eat there, and they're right across the water from eachother. I think you'll have a great trip anyway!!!

If they are staying at the Boardwalk, they can NOT use the pools at the Beach Club, unless the Luna Park pool at the Boardwalk is closed.

This is very unlike Disney, I just can't believe it.

It does occasionally happen. Perhaps there is a maintenance issue with some rooms. But usually they make up for it by offering some compensation such as an upgrade or free dinner.

I personally would call and ask to speak to a manager.
Be firm, but polite, and state that you had purposefully booked the resort and that you understand overbookings happen (they shouldn't, but do) and then politely ask them "how can you help me make this better?" The key is to remember to be polite, but firm in stating that you expect to be compensated because you were bumped from the resort you had a confirmed reservation for. In most cases, Disney (along with most other businesses) will try to accommodate you for the inconvenience they imposed on you. If that doesn't work, you can then write a polite, but firm letter to Disney customer relations stating your issue. In either case, try to still have a great time! I've never stayed in them, but from what I hear the Board Walk Villas are very nice. |

Can you tell me how long you were booked? I am not sure if you are a DVC member and booked with points. I am a Travel Agent and I just pulled up the booking page for Beach Club (Not Villas) and there is availability. They have standard, water view, Concierge garden view and lagoon view. All available. I do not understand why they did not bump you to a regular room. The rooms are very large and have two queen beds with a pull out. At least you would be at the resort you like. Personally, they should offer you Concierge for your inconvenience. If you are not a DVC member, I could call the Travel Agent line and see if I can help.
I will be at the Yacht Club on Friday. I hope you get the room you want.

If it were me and I was using points I would be on the phone with member services and getting some points refunded. If they confirmed me at Beach Club I sure as heck would be staying at Beach Club.

I can really empathize with you. This happened to us a number of years back at the Polynesian. We too were told that they had overbooked. The situation was handled extremely poorly. The memories actually remain quite upsetting to me. We were forced to move about 3 days before our scheduled departure, and they didn't even seem to care or understand why we were upset by this. Many people may feel the same, but when we plan and save for our Disney vacation, our resort is a major part of our decision and vacation. What was especially unbelievable is that the only deluxe resort option we were given was AKL, and I had to fight to get an AP or AAA discount, whatever it was we had at the time at the Poly. They were going to charge us full rack rates! There was absolutely no Disney magic felt during that whole experience. I feel so badly for you. I hope your situation will end up being handled better than ours.

I agree with everyone else. As a TA, I would call and speak to a supervisor and explain everything especially about your daughter. I am certain they can do something for you. The Boardwalk is nice, but as you stated you booked the Beach Club. I am sure after you speak with the "right" person, they will be able to accommodate you in some way. Good Luck and enjoy your trip.
