Need a Winter Coat & Gift for 17 year old girl (charity)-UPDATE photos of gift #49

Our neighborhood "adopts" Christmas Angels for a local childrens home and our family is giving to a 17 year old girl this year. The only thing on her wish list is a winter coat, so I'm looking to my budget board friends for some help...

1. Any deals out there on winter coats that are suitable for a teenage girl? We live in a fairly mild climate, but temperatures do drop below freezing in January and we very occasionally see snow.
2. I'd like to add a "fun" gift to the practical one. Any suggestions?

We usually get coats for charities like this on Black Friday. Places like Sears and Penny's usually have good deals.

Aeropostale has some cute ones on sale, and with the 30% off FFNOV code right now they wouldn't be a bad buy. Just about every teenager seems to love Aeropostale these days.

You may try Target or Old Navy...I thought both had cute coats this year.

17 year old girls mostly like to look cute, so I'd say clothes (tough if you don't know the size), a cute purse, makeup brushes or hair stuff (headbands, brushes, etc.), a hat/scarf/gloves to go with the coat. A Walmart or Target gift card would allow her to pick up makeup or whatever she needs.

It's very nice of you. Someone is really going to appreciate your generosity!

so nice of you!!

Hi there,

Just wanted to contribute my 2 cents... how about a few scarves to match (old navy has cute one!)

For my kids, I purchase 2 sets of gloves, so if one goes missing we still have a match...

I got my DD a "quilted jacket" from Walmart, they're reversible. They were on clearance for $13 on their website I think and she loves it, we're in NC and I think it will be warm enough to get her through the winter fine.

I'm pretty sure Old Navy is going to have 50% off outerwear on Black Friday, two weeks ago I know they had the same deal. I got a 15% coupon last week from clicking on the yellow fleece arm on the website.

Walmart is having a good deal on bubble jackets, day after thanksgiving. My mom bought one last year, and I "borrowed" it all winter. I live in WI and walk 2 miles daily and was nice and toasty.

If at all possible try to find one at a department store on sale. I think Sears has 50% off coats. I am pretty sure that within the next week or so most places will start putting them on clearance.

First, let it be known that I shop at Walmart. I grocery shop and clothing shop there. With 5 kids, the clearance racks there are amazing. The only reason I say to stay away from Walmart is because that is likely where they would be able to shop......they prob would not be able to get something from a dept store. With a good sale you will end up spending the same amount....just getting a different selection.
The yr before last we purchased a coat for a 12 yr old. I was able to find one that was a 3-in-1.....with removable vest. As extras we bought an awesome scarf & gloves.
Then we were able to get some other special items.......fuzzy sleep socks, sleep pants, a bath kit(spa type kit) from Bath & Body, a journal. All items were purchased during great sales so we were able to get alot within our budget.

Bless you & your family for being so generous and kind. I bet the girl will be thrilled with your gifts. Remember to stop for a moment on Christmas to think of her & her family.

I have two 18 year old DDs, and I wanted just the say that they say to buy a wool "Pea Coat" if possible, that is classic and everyone else is wearing them too. I bought theirs at BJ's and it was very affordable, maybe $40-50?

I don't know where you live, but I know that North Face is big around here. If you do some searching, you may be surprised what good prices you can find on closeouts, etc. at places like backcountryoutlet.com, travelcountry.com, etc. I got three different ones for my daughter last year (light coat, heavy coat, and a raincoat) for exceptionally good prices.

As far as the "fun" gift, I agree with the others about a gift certificate. I'm sure the girl would LOVE the opportunity to just go pick out whatever she wants.

I have a 17 yr DD and this is exactly what I was going to say!!!!

Our Sam's had some nice ones for around $50. In fact my friend bought one for her teen DD for her birthday.
