Crowds around Jan. 9-15ish... anyone have predictions? - The DIS Discussion Forums

We were supposed to go Jan 24-30, but we've hit a snafu because of DH work vacation hours-they told him to use or loose 60 hours by Jan. 8 and if he chooses to loose them, he will also be penalized 60 hours from this years accrual.

We are now going to wander our way down to Orlando from Jan 2-8th and then check into SSR on the 9th and stay through the 15th.

I was expecting low crowds for the end of Jan. but what has the begginning of Jan. looked like in the past?

I know its marathon weekend and the resorts are pretty full. What do the parks ususally look like?

I went this year from Jan 12th to the 16th and it was great. The CR was pretty crowded because of the marathon participants but the crowds at the parks were light.
We got to Epcot one afternoon and the wait time for Soarin was only 20 minutes. The only problem we had was getting to see Fantasmic, with the show only being done 2 times a week they were packed so we opted to skip going when it was standing room only.

The first couple of days will be a little more crowded than the rest because of the Marathon. At any rate, we find January to always be easy on the crowds. The biggest issues come on the actual days of the marathon, because they close roads all over the place, and it's almost impossible to drive around there! We once arrived on Marathon day and it was impossible to get to our resort!

The marathon is Jan 8-10.

We are going the 8th-16th

We think that the first weekend (9th-10th)may be a little busy but the following week should be wonderful. We were there last year during the marathon and found that a couple of days after, the crowds really thinned.

Thank you everyone that's what I wanted to hear!!!!!!!!!! We came in day after New year's this past Jan and it was horrible! As soon as the New Year's crowd left the Marathon crowd moved in so we're hoping it's a little less hectic.

DH and I will be home at SSR Jan. 11-15 for a 15th anniversary trip! Can't wait! The crowds in the past when we've gone in January haven't been bad except for MLK weekend. We are arriving after the marathon, and have never been there that weekend, so can't really say how that will be.

Anyway, here's hoping for great weather for both of us! See ya then!

Also hoping for low crowds. We will be checking into SSR on the 9th as well. Have a great January trip everyone!!!

Could we be selling it all in the near future? Maybe.
