Newbie Hotel Questions

Hello! I just joined DIS tonight, and from reading other threads, it seems the best way to determine the best hotel for our group is to post our "specs" and ask your insight.

We will be a party of five, arriving at Disneyland on either Dec. 30 or Jan. 2 and departing on Jan. 6. My DH and I will be accompanied by our seven-year-old daughter and my parents, who are in excellent health and extraordinarily active. We are looking for a two-bedroom suite or two adjacent rooms, and would like to have some space to kick back and relax, either in the rooms themselves or in the common areas of the hotel. We would also like to be able to return to the room easily if any of us should feel the need to take a break mid-day.

I am leaning toward staying on-site at the Disneyland Hotel. I am hoping to request a suite in the Dreams tower. Good decision or is there something better?

I plan to book the room by calling the Disney resorts phone number. Are there better deals to be had by working through AAA, booking online or other methods?

Does Disneyland Hotel offer a senior rate, and/or a AAA rate?

Can someone give me an idea of the cost to upgrade to concierge, and also explain what that means?

I know I'll think of a zillion other questions, but I'll feel better knowing that we have the resort decision in place. Thanks in advance for any help you can provide!

If you'd like to stay onsite, I'd get two adjoining rooms. Suites at DLH are about 5+ times more money than a room.

I would say there is nothing better then staying in a dreams suite, as long as you can afford $5000 a night lol!

AAA will offer you a discount, as will having an annual pass(not too much more than a 5 or 6 day hopper). If you would like to have more room, but not so much cost, you might consider an off sight place. My cousins booked a concierge room at the DLH last year for $350(annual pass rate) a night and then were upgraded to a suite, but it did have ust one bedroom. If you want two seperate sleeping areas, you almost have to get two rooms or the above mentioned very expensive suite.

They enjoyed concierge. There is a special check in procedure and then the CM in concierge happily helps with making priortity seatings and/or other reservations, and provides information if you need it. They also have movies and games I believe. The lounge itself is accessed via a cool glass elevator and has snacks, and beverages in addition to a nightly wine and cheese event. Also a great place to watch the fireworks from. A nice place if you have time to hang out in it.

I show AP rates at DLH concierge for Jan 2 at $359, Jan. 3, and 4th at $423 and then Jan. 5th at $288. They do not show availability for Dec 30 and 31st.
The Grand does and it is about $300 a night for AP rate. Not Conceirge. That is like $500

You might do better booking a 4 night package at disneyland.com and seeing if you can get the $400 off? Is that promo still good?
