Am I the only one? - New ships

My family and I aren't overly excited about the new ships. Not that the new ships aren't great, but we love the smaller ships. We don't look forward to so much larger ships. I know the design is similar. I am sure Disney will still have wonderful service and the same crew to passenger ratio, but we would rather travel on the smaller ships. I guess we are afraid it won't be as intimate and there will be larger crowds. The large ships of other cruise lines is what really kept us from going on a cruise until Disney.

I want to SEE the new ships, but I want to cruise on the Magic. Does that make any sense? And I dislike short cruises, so I won't be booking the Dream.

I agree - sometimes ships can get just "too big" and they look like floating hotels instead of nice, classic ships.

Yes, that makes total sense. I would love to tour them, but still cruise on the Magic or Wonder.

No, you're not the only one. The new ships are BEAUTIFUL, but I kind of like the "smaller, cozy" feel of the Magic. I'm kind of hoping that with so many people into the "newer, bigger" ships, maybe the smaller ships will be a little cheaper for the rest of us

Makes perfect sense! In fact, it describes exactly how I feel about it.

I would love to sail on the Dream, but I have no interest in its itinerary. We have already done the Bahamas a couple of times, as well as the Caribbean. We are currently booked on one of the Alaskan cruises, and would love to do Europe if DCL continues to sail there. My interest is not so much the ship, but where it is going.

Agree..

...One of the nicest things about Cunard was that while the Queen Mary 2 is about 60,000 tons bigger than the Magic or Wonder, they served about the same amopunt of people. Space is nice!

That's what DH said - we've already been to the Bahamas (whoohoo) let's see more of the world! So we booked on the Med cruise on the Magic for 2011. Hopefully when the Fantasy comes online there will be better choices for the new ships.

Cool

Well you could have a point, thankfully, DCL will still have the Magic and Wonder. Only time will tell with the new ships.

My TA is on her way to Orlando today to tour the new "biggest ship ever built" -- Oasis of the Seas. Frommers did an article about how ridiculous it is that now that it's built, it doesn't fit into any ports and is basically a floating hotel for 7 days! With 6,000 passengers, it would just be too overwhelming for me. If it ever does start docking at ports, I would hate to be a passenger on the other ships in port -- too many people at one time getting off! And why I must ask do we NEED ships this big

I agree. I would prefer to sail on the Magic and Wonder. I think the crowds there are about my limit. However, since I do want to do a shorter cruise in 2011, I guess I will be trying out the Dream for a 5 night. If the early reviews about crowd control are bad we might reconsider.

I can't wait to cruise on the new ships but the itinerary is horrible and keeps me away. I am done with Nassau and Key West!

I agee with you.. would love to sail the dream but we choose by the itinerary instead of what ship it is.

I am way done with Key West - and Nassau didn't appeal... So, unless they keep a better itinerary for September, or DCL days could be over...
