Confirmed!

Other than some softer seat cushions, and a somewhat smoother-riding track-system, the biggest change was some interactivity in the QUEUE.

yep, there have been several threads on the boards, and there is even a YouTube Video of the updated attraction, that someone filmed during the soft opening.

I guess I missed something....I thought they were redoing the whole ride new tracks, new 2 person wide cars, etc.
It looks like the biggest change was the refurb of the exit store

The cars were not scheduled to be changed into DL style (2-person-across seating) rockets.
But, I can see where the confusion came from...
info like that was posted on rumor threads for months.

We were there on Monday and they were doing "test rides" so there was a soft opening, we did not ride it though, not big Space Mountain fans.

We rode it on Saturday, and saw it open a couple of other times over the next few days. We're not big SM fans, but we rode it 'cause it was just refurbed and happened to be open as we were walking by...mostly just to say we did, if you know what I mean...

The PP's are correct, the biggest change seemed to be the entry queue, IMO. They were running the interactive game (reminded me of Asteroids, but with multiple players at a time) sporadically when we were in line, restarting it partway through the loop to try to get all the screens working. The game started about halfway through the line, and there were multiple stations with about 10-12 players per station. Video screens were on the left side, with game control buttons on the handrail just below each screen. Even just in test mode, we noticed problems with people not filling in all the controls, so that a set or two was unused and then others missed out playing because people behind them filled in all the controls as well. There were also times when people got so caught up in the game that they didn't move forward when the line ahead of them moved. Hopefully the games will be timed to match line movements or something similar. Graphics and sound were pretty good, and the game seemed fun from our brief exposure...and hey, anything to keep you occupied in a long line is good, right?

Once you get into the main boarding area, the lines seemed the same. There was maybe some new signage, but nothing that stood out. The seats in the car were a little softer, with higher backs than I remember. The track and lighting were the same as far as we could tell, and sound during the ride seemed the same, etc.

There looked like there was going to be some new stuff in the exit line, where the moving sidewalk is, but it was still all curtained off. There were some new displays already open, where the old "families using technology" displays were. They were okay, mostly fake tourism-themed displays, but nothing overwhelming. It was a good change, I think, though, since the old displays were getting kind of dated.

Overall, I think if you liked the old SM, you'll like the refurb, since the major elements are pretty much the same as before. (Unlike the TTA's recent unimprovements...don't get me started on that!)

DH and I rode it on Sunday night during the Christmas Party. We walked right on. There is a gate at the loading area now. The cars didn't have the reflective/glow strip on them anymore. It seemed darker in there...lots of stars. The picture was unexpected...ours was lovely! We really had a blast and were really excited to ride before we went home on Tuesday.
